Twice during the 6 months that we have owned our 2010 Prius, a loud clattering noise from under the hood occurred upon startup. After shutting it down and restarting, all was normal. It sounded like an engine that was getting ready to throw a connecting rod. The dealer could find nothing wrong and when I contacted Toyota's hot line, they were clueless as well. One service writer suggested the ABS as the source, but I've owned 5 other cars with ABS and never heard anything like it. Has anyone else experienced it?

Re: Loud Clattering Noise So odd that you posted this. I experienced this yesterday on my 2010 (<2000 miles). Very loud clanking noise during start. I immediately shut off, waited about 15 seconds. Again a clanking noise, but not nearly as loud. 3rd try worked perfectly and have not heard it since. Will keep an eye on the forum and the listed thread.
