Just wondering what others are doing with regard to battery mode operation. I see lots of posts advocationg one thing or another, but would like to quantify this a bit.

So here's a poll for driving slow, at more or less steady speeds, for
medium trips like 50 to 100 miles.
But need more, so please post the following added info:

    1 Typical temperature

2 Terrain flat, hilly, mountaneous, etc.

3 Traffic and stops per mile.

4 Typical and best slow trip mpg
(not just coasting down hill, ie round trip loop or ending at elevation
similar to start, and not extra windy.) Skip trips under 50 miles.

    5 average speed.

6 Other special techniques used if any. (plus your technique from the poll question!)

7 Year and month of Prius, and/or code rev if updated.

8 Tire pressures used and any tire mods.

    9 Oil used.

1 Typical temperature: around 50's to 60's now in NYC area.

2 Terrain flat, hilly, mountaneous, etc.: Normal commute, mostly flat, maybe 5% hilly. Weekend travel to NJ, some rolling hills about 10%.

3 Traffic and stops per mile: depends on rush hour traffic.

4 Typical and best slow trip mpg: slow trip? My best mpg is in my signature.

5 average speed: again, depends on traffic. Usually avg of 60 to 65 mph. 70+mph when going downhill or very few cars on highway under safe conditions.

6 Other special techniques used if any: conservative, anticipate stops, follow a safe distance from car in front. Use battery during slow traffic. Drive like normal during normal traffic.

7 Year and month of Prius, and/or code rev if updated: got it May of 05.

8 Tire pressures used and any tire mods: OEM, 42/40

    9 Oil used: Mobil 1 syn 5W-30

    1. Mostly level, some rolling terrain.
    2. 10 mi of freeway @ 66 mpg, 20 mi of older highway @ 44 mph; cruise control; 33 mph in towns with multiple stop lights where I may have to come to a complete stop. 44 mph & cruise control does very well for keeping mpg value up.
    3. Tire pressure OEM, 42/40
    4. Conservative & consistent driving, anticipate stops. Drive normal in busy traffic
    5. Best fuel economy: last three tanks (14.5k mi) 60 mpg
    6. Oil: Mobil 1 5W-30
    7. Air temperatures: 65-95 °F

I just let the car do what it wants and not beat it up. You are way better than me if you can go 50 - 100 miles at 40 mph I would be insane not to mention getting honked at and cut off every 30 seconds.

I found cruise control at 65 is fairly good 60 is better but I cant get myself to go that slow on the highway.
