Check Engine Light code P1118 Has anyone received Check Engine Light code P1118? We have had this one come on and off for the last month or so. The code on our reader indicates "Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering". Thanks for your consideration. -Ed
Re: Check Engine Light code P1118 DTC P1118 "Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit High for Coolant Heat Storage System" This means that the engine ECU thinks the temperature of the coolant coming out of the coolant heat recovery system canister is -40 degrees F, which is clearly not correct. Either the sensor is bad, or the wiring harness is broken or has a loose connection, or the engine ECU is bad. If the car had an accident impacting the left front fender, then it is likely that the wiring harness or sensor was damaged by the accident.
Re: Check Engine Light code P1118 Any Suggestions on how to best narrow it down? Yes, we did have an accident a few years ago and replaced the canister, pump, sensor and fluid. The harness did not seem to be damaged. Thanks for your consideration. -Ed
Re: Check Engine Light code P1118 Hi Ed, Yes, if you wish to DIY and have access to a digital multimeter, then I recommend that you subscribe to techinfo.toyota.com and download the repair manual info regarding DTC P1118. That will show you the troubleshooting sequence to follow. For example, you can verify whether the wiring harness is good by doing resistance checks at the wiring harness connector located at the engine ECU behind the glove box. You can verify whether the sensor is good by measuring its resistance to see whether the reading is within the expected range. Good luck.
