Hi guys, I need some help here... I backed up into the garage door about a month ago and I didn't notice any dmg till recently.. The spoiler is pointing up about a quarter inch higher than normal. I need detailed instructions on how to remove the plastic panels to see if I can either re-pop the clips back in place or find out what's damaged. does anyone have a diagram of how to remove the 2010 prius spoiler? also anyone know where I can buy the clips online for cheap instead of going to my dealer? Thanks, -John
I don't know but I'll give a guess. I suspect that the hardware securing the spoiler is inside the panel (s) of the hatch. Once you open that up, it will probably be self evident. Incidently if you have any slight dents, the plastic like material can often be pushed out by hand. There may be some plugs hiding the panel screws.
it was pretty easy but I had a hard time putting it back on without it wobbling.. I thought that it was because I didn't screw it in tight enough.. so I tried tightening it.. until I broke the screw all together... so there's nothing I can do now, the screw is attached to the spoiler.. I'm going to have to live with a wobbly spoiler unless I buy a new one..
Is it necessary to remove the lower panel in addition to the upper panel to gain access to the spoiler attachment hardware? It looks like the spoiler is located behind the upper panel and removal of the lower panel wouldn't be required.
If you cannot get hold of the broken screw, there is a type of screw called an easyout, first you have to drill a small hole in the screw that broke off and then use the easyout screw. On a small screw this can be very difficult. On reassy, use flat/lock washer, do nor overtighten, and use locktight ( a fluid )
I struck something and broke the spoiler off when the car was about a month old. The dealer fixed it for free, but it recently happened again. I decided to fix it myself using Cool-Chem, a two part cyanopoxy glue that has 3500 psi strength. I have made a number of "impossible" repairs with this fantastic stuff. (Google Cool-Chem.) The liftback inside trim comes off starting with a small gap on the ~15" piece on the right side. There are 5 bolt heads molded into the spoiler. Remove he bolts, clean up the holes in the spoiler with a Dremel tool and glue the bolt heads back with plenty of Cool-chem, Making sure that the heads are fully recessed. Smooth up the mating surface with a little extra glue if necessary. (It builds up nicely and hardens, fast!) Re-install the spoiler and use Loctite on the nuts. Finally pop the plastic cover parts back into place. There is no stiffening on the flat metal mating surface on the trunk lid, so the spoiler is something less than "solid".
I have a factory spoiler for a 2010 prius for sale. There's two small (less than an inch) scratches on it. I'm selling it for $250. Let me know if your intrested.
