I'm trying to decide what's better: buying a used Prius under 20k miles or getting a new one. What kind of negotiated price tags should I expect from either one? Please advise. Thank you.
20k of what? 20k of potholes? 20k of revving engine to max? 20k of poorly maintained roads? Hire a mechanic to have an independent inspection done.
Are you talking a used 2010 Prius with under 20K miles? There is a dealership here in Atlanta advertising 2008 Prius for $11,900 and 2009 Prius for $13,900. Those are excellent prices if the mileage is right. They claim they are priced below NADA Trade-in value! A new one will cost $20K+ depending on the model and options... Another new member from NJ just posted this price paid on the 2010 Price Paid Thread: "Prius II Blizzard Pearl MSRP $24,376 for $23,700 OTD"
It was supposed to be a general question, so let me rephrase it: Should I get a used 2010 Prius or a used 2010 Prius? I got a quote for a new one (Prius 3) with Solar PKG for $25,352 after $750 cashback. MSRP is $28590. Is this a good deal?
Did you mean to say: Should I get a used 2010 Prius or a new 2010 Prius? I have a new Prius III w/Nav, I paid just over $22K, the Solar Package is about $3K more MSRP, slightly less at Invoice, so it might be a good deal. Ask to see the Invoice and see where you're at in relation to the Invoice price. At this stage in the game (2011's are starting to show up at dealers), the asking price for a 2010 should be at Invoice or below, before the $750 cashback.
Um that is a horrible deal. I know Dianne from the forums is selling a Prius III for around $22,500. Add the $2000 solar package and it should cost you around $24,500, probably less. At this late point in 2010, you should be paying no more than invoice. Many have gotten $1000 under invoice. If you don't want the solar package, just save your money and get the Prius II.
Between the 2 "used" 2010, I would get a new one still. Shop around, the deals should be there this weekend. The dealer where we bought our cars, they were offering $3.5K off MSRP. Labor Day weekend tend to be the time they start clearing off current year stock. Plus, if you read WSJ, Priuses took a big hit in sale for the month of July, so there are plenty of inventory stuck at the docks.
I know this is an old thread, but I just sold my Prius on Craig's List yesterday. I posted it on the 4th of July, so it sold in 2 days! I was asking $23,500 and got it! I went back and looked at out original sales paperwork and realized I actually sold it for more than I paid! My out the door price in June 2010 was $22,908! Got to love having a car you get paid to drive for 2 years! Anyway, I thought I'd share this just to show the Prius does hold it's resale value, and in this case appreciated by roughly $600! I sold it because I'm changing jobs and will have the use of a company car, so I'm going from 51 MPG to having my fuel paid for! Otherwise I'd still have it, it was an awesome vehicle!
