TX2TH posted about a FLYAUDIO.net HU. Looks like the exact same one sold by Coagent. A few calls shows it is now available in samples, product will be around end of the month... Cost is around $1000 US, more in Canada (and likely more still in the UK). It definitely looks good - and will likely come with all the strengths and all the weaknesses defined in the Chinese HU threads... I think they are trying to hold up margins - but it is hard to believe people will generally buy a product that is more than a premium highend HU, and not crazy much more than a used factory nav (heck - new I think they are $2K)... Interesting though!
The Flyaudio unit caught my eye on some Russian site for 36,000 rubles. That's roughly 1,150 dollars.
the coagent pricing is a little bit crazy. I waited a long time for their distribution, but when I found some proces on german site for other models I reallize to go a chinese path.
Interesting... One big difference I notice from the Rosen is that the FlyAudio does not seem to have SD card readers on the front.... Also more buttons. The Rosen is supposed to also be built from the CASKA 3692.. Is there good support with FlyAudio? The Rosen MSRP is like $1700, but it looks like we will be able to get them for around $1000... What to do??!?? Thanks, Jeff
People buying a Chinese HU (generic or Rosen) might research: Availability (and pricing) of SAT adapter that's controlled by and displayed by the HU Same with HD radio Availability of traffic. Cost of any required hardware. Subscriptions Maps. What's included. OEM? Time limited? Trial version? Quality? Cost of upgrading to better maps. Cost to upgrade to next years maps. European posters report paying 1/3 the cost of an aftermarket radio. People in the US can purchase the Kenwood 6160 for $740, the Pioneer AVIC X920B for $895 or the JVC KWNT1 for 732. Probably for less if you shop ebay sellers. You can buy the dash kit, wiring harness and steering wheel adapter for under $100. I don't see any price savings. People have to weigh the OEM look against the features and better support that come with an aftermarket brand.
UPDATE: looks like the price will be around $850-900...I was just on the phone with my contact...I haven't bought one yet because this unit has no pre-amp outputs for a subwoofer I definitely need to install...he'll let me know more details about this tomorrow. also - he's based in California and the unit comes with a 1 year warranty - any issues, send it back to him. the only info I have on the unit is on flyaudio.com ; I believe there is a generic PDF for the manual on the site. personally I think these units look waaay better than standard double din....too much wasted space.

I'm interested.. the Rosen unit with Ipod & camera harnesses, and shipping is $1200, and THREE year warranty.. but I like the look so much better than the 2Din setup.. I ordered the Toyota shell and spacers for a 2 din, but would like something else.. but, it has to WORK reliably.. wife driving car.. can't tell if this does bluetooth contact download. also, the pioneer has voice dial and nav.. Sam
I'm kind of in the same boat...ordered the schosche faceplate for a Pioneer and actually ordered a Pioneer HU....but I think the rosen/flyaudio setup look way better, cleaner.
Flyaudio has a new series of units (Golden-8000 series). A prius model isn't available. I don't know when or if such a unit will be available. Flyaudio Golden Collection It looks like this series has the sub out a previous poster is looking for. They also have a platinum (9000) series but I have no idea what features that unit offers. A couple of posters have a contact with a flyaudio distributor/dealer. Maybe they can shed some light on the new models. I agree the flyaudio and Rosen look better then double din units. However Rosen and Flyaudio are missing features some of us are looking for.
