Just got my V back this evening after going with a Geoshield Dark Matter ceramic tint all around. How they handled the DOT matrix was something I'd not seen before - they tinted up to the matrix but then the placed solid black vinyl on the Matrix and blended it in - you can't see where the tint ends and the Matrix begins. The Vinyl is thin enough that you still have the texture of the matrix bumps, but it is opaque - very unique solution - looks pretty cool and doesn't have the annoying issues with attempting to tint over or up to the Matrix. Too dark out to take photos but give me a couple of days and I'll get some up.
Would love to see your pictures. Sounds like a unique method. Some tinters use steel wool to level the critters thus eliminating trapped air under the tint.
What's a DOT Martrix...? Sounds like the LED headlamps but I'm not sure why you would TINT these? Sorry for the NOOB ??? Thx in advance!
Hi LW69, That would be the truncated triangle of black dots printed on the inside glass at the top of your windshield around the base of the rearview mirror. Back in the old days they were tinted glass... Dan
Had both my prii done. My "professional" cut ever so carefully around the dots and did a bomb job. Looks like my cars have a goatee. :cheer2:
Agree - took a day to get used to it - wife likes it though and that's the main thing as our other vehicles all have the small visor that covers the gap between the driver and passenger windows this one bugged her that it didn't. Still wish there was built in visor extensions on the Prius in general for the side windows.......
Re: Photos Attached - Tinting the Dot Matrix It looks like you only have about 3 inches tinted? What the sense of that? I have my front windshield tinted 7 inches down and wish I had more because that's a big window.
I was wondering about the Dot Matrix myself -- so it's strictly a form of window tinting? It serves no other functional purpose?
