As I am gathering the pieces to start my upgrade from the non-nav JBL (to: AVIC-X920BT, PAC TATO, PAC SWI-PS, Metra surround, factorykiss camera {thanks rrolff}), I started wondering about a screen protector. I want to miminize scratches, and have had good luck with protectors on other electronics. Is anyone aware of a screen protector (plastic screen overlay) that fits (without cutting down)?
Unless you are planning on scrubbing dirt into the display, there should be no need for a protector. Cell-phones - yes - because they may sit in your pocket - but I have never seen a screen get messed up. There are also several products that will rub out even tough scratches (containerstore.com). Don't bother - clean it with a soft cloth, and you are fine... The thing will be in the light, and a protector will just make it look worse when reflecting {IMHO}... Don't put your mic on the steering column as discussed - put it in the top left of the A pilar. I haven't moved it yet - but even th3e techs at Pioneer said put it there...
Have you completed the installation? The PAC instructiohs for the TATO suggests installing a HU with at least 4 volts. I was wondering if the 2.2 volts in your unit is enough. Did you need to install the resister in the PAC TATO?
On my 2006 Civic I just traded in, I had a screen protector on my stock navigation from an online place called "Screen Patronus." The screen cover was perfectly clear and fit the screen exactly. It was a great product. It's been a few years since I've bought from them, but all screen covers I've purchased from them have been excellent! -Sam
I finished the install some time ago. Used the Pioneer AVIC-X920BT, PAC TATO (stereo to JBL), PAC-SWI-PS (remote control buttons on steering wheel), GEX-P920XM (XM), a cable to use the factory XM antenna on the car and the Metra surround. I also got the factorykiss camry camera from ebay. As a note, I did have to solder the resisitor for the PAC-SWI-PS, but no changes for the TATO / JBL connection. Plug and play. I did have to turn the gain up on the TATO. The system works great. I am very happy with it. I was not and still not motivated to change the amp and speakers. I think the speakers and amp do fine, and don't see a need to upgrade. I was more interested in getting the GPS, rear view camera and USB input (with a usable interface).
Where did you get the cable to use the factory XM antenna with your Pioneer XM? I've been goggling and only found one very overpriced cable..
do you have any pics and feedback on having the unit recessed that little bit with the available surrounds? I am about to put the same unit in my wifes Mod II. think I wish the shell made the unit flush with the dash.. haven't seen it, so not quite sure Sam

Instead, I did have to take the plastic housing off one side (used small screwdriver to open plastic latch). The cable end then plugs in to the OEM cable. I liked the solution better than an additional antenna and the factory antenna has worked great for me. Was not happy with the surround not matching the texture. It looks fine and it turns out it does not bother me. Everyone seeing the stereo thinks it is original to the car. Knowing what I know now, I do not know I would do it again. My desire to keep everything "factory" drove the total cost up to near $1000. For an additional $800, I could have saved some hassle (of course now it's even more with the Safety Connect). My stereo, however, is much better than the Toyota. I also like having the nav system operate from the flash memory instead of a dvd. The unit is pretty snappy and has some great graphics and the flick/scroll interface (and additional iphone, video and hd options). If you did not start with a nav package, this is the way to go. I am very happy with my decision to go with Pioneer. With all the guides, it was easy to install. Since I am slow and wanted to make sure I did everything absolutely perfectly, it took me longer than I estimated to install everything.
