Just bought a Prius. I'm from the Los Angeles area where the best I could do price wise was about a thousand under MSRP. I went up to Madera, in Northern California, a two hundred mile drive, and got one for $1600 under MSRP. I got the base model with the #2 package. Email me if you want the saleslady's name, the dealership, etc. Can fix you up with the same deal.
$31,000 out the door in the San Francisco Bay Area for a Touring fully-loaded (I believe that's package 6). Any good?
NYC. Picked up a 2007 with package 5 and the preferred accessory package for $26,288, which was about $1,900 below sticker. I also got them to throw in the $40 cargo tote for good measure. I basically called and e-mailed every dealer in the area, got a couple of good price quotes (and many dealers saying full list), located the dealer with the most cars on the lot, called and told them I was ready to buy that day in cash with the right price and showed them quotes of the other dealers. They came back at this price, I told them to toss in the cargo tote and we'd be good. NYS limits what they can charge for document handling (getting the registration paperwork and tags) to $45, so other than tax and a few dollar fee for new tires and registration, that's it. I think I got a great deal (and I just spent all my hard negotiated savings at Coastaletech).
I just bought my 2007 package #3 (HI) in Chicago suburbs. MSRP was $25,614. I paid $23,349 - $2265 off MSRP. Now is the time to buy.
Two weeks ago I got a Touring Model, white with some applique and pkg 3 for $23,444 which was supposedly $3000 off of MSRP> Maita Toyota, Sacramento and I dealt with Medi Raza. They only had two Touring models but would have sold the regular with the same package (4 i think) for $22,988. It was the best I could do by a lot. hilde
Just bought a 2007 Package #6 for $26,479. For older owners, the package system has been revised and #6 is top of the line. To get this price I used the methods in the book Don't Get Taken Every Time.
I e-mailed (and, as needed, followed up with a phone call) with 10 Bay Area dealers. Best price I've gotten on a Package 5 (non-touring) is $25,803 from Cindy Lee at Daly City Toyota. Others have been as much as $2,000 higher! She claims that this is $100 above invoice, though Edmunds suggests that that's not accurate (they say invoice is $25,172). Worth trying to negotiate even lower?
Re: What I paid for My Prius! Time for an update. people are going NUTS!!! According to today's Carmax quotes, your 2007's are worth more than what you paid for them, today!!!! Search results at carmax.com Never thought of a car as an investment--not one to drive everyday, anyway...

It's still not an investment. An investment is something that you believe will keep going up, which will not happen with the Prius. An investment is something that you would sell immediately if you know it's at its peak. The GenII Prius is definitely near its peak now. But nobody is selling (which is why its price is so high). So there's really nothing for most of us to celebrate. We have something very valuable on paper that most of us do not plan to sell until its value has dropped significantly. In other words, it's a car. Buy it, drive it, enjoy it, reap the gas savings. When you're tired of it or it's worn out, sell it and buy something else. It's transportation - not an investment.
2007, 17,500 miles, not sure which package. Out the door $17,500 with wrap-around warranty for electronics.
First post, just bought mine last week Just got a used 2006 Prius with backup cam, keyless entry, 66k miles for 12k. The owner said all he has done was oil changes every 3k miles. Can anyone suggest some things I should change/check that the original owner may have neglected? Also, can anyone recommend an extended warranty on a prius over 60k miles? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I was in the dealership the other day getting my Tundra serviced and noticed a new '12 in the 'v' configuration, looked pretty tricked out, and the supposedly discounted price was $33,000!! When I bought my '08 Package 2 in late '07, I paid $22,000 & change.
