100,000 Mile Club

108k only issue was a broken water pump fixed with the extended warranty found on Prius Chat. And a wild turkey (the bird) busting up the windshield in Door County, WI. $350. The prius will be going on it's 2nd run to Myrtle Beach later this summer. Oil change, rotation, coolant fill, and filter change coming up before then. Love it!!

 

I've decided on this preventive maintenance in autumn when the car hits about 120k miles. I'll supply the labor

Turned 100K about a month ago. Purchased in May 2007. Never had any issues or anything beyond oil and filter changes (plus one set of tires). After 100K I did have coolant, PCV, serpentine belt and transaxle lubricant changed. Orig brakes.

Most of our driving is long distance on Interstates.

 

Hello, I'm new here but we just purchased a used Prius with 111,000 miles in it. No problems so far, I think but how do you interpret the LCD screen regarding gas consumption and battery use? I'm still trying to learrn how to interpret... When I drive it, there are instances when the car is idle or stopped, the battery gauge go low down to 2 bars (lowest) and when I start driving again, it goes up to almost full... what does it mean? Does it mean a battery needs to be replace? Please advise. Thanks.

 

The traction battery state-of-charge gauge on the MFD shows you the approximate battery SOC. No bars is equivalent to ~40% SOC while eight green bars is equivalent to ~80% SOC. The bars are not linear, so you cannot interpolate to determine how much incremental SOC is associated with each bar.

Normally the battery SOC will remain in the 3-6 blue bar range. However if you are stopped while the AC compressor is on, that will bring SOC down to one or two red bars. At that point the gasoline engine will come on to charge the traction battery.

If you drive down an incline, the traction battery SOC may increase to 7 or 8 green bars.

As the battery ages it loses capacity, so the SOC indication on the MFD gauge will change more rapidly since less energy is required to move the battery from one SOC level to the next.

If you don't have any warning lights on, then the battery condition is still "good enough". Good luck with your newly acquired Prius.

Follow the 120K mile scheduled maintenance guide which may be in your glove compartment and also can be found online at Toyota Cars, Trucks, SUVs & Accessories in the owners' website.

Replace the transaxle fluid now, and at 60K mile intervals.
Replace the serpentine drive belt and PCV valve.
Replace the front struts and rear shocks.
Since you live on the East Coast with snowy winters, replace the 12V auxiliary battery at 4-year intervals.

 

I went overkill and replaced the pcv at 90K.

changed oil every 5k front wheel bearings at 92 and 98k rear pass. bearing 154k
having problems with pass. side brake light (leds) dim
dealer shock $199.00 for tail light assembly. can't change just 1 led?
not bad for over 500 stops a day for 4 yrs of mail delivery

 

Just hit 100,000 miles yesterday.
Bought the car new in August 2004.

No major work done - all the early TSB work the first year or so.
Oil changes every 5,000 miles, other service as recommended by Toyota.
After the first change I switched to Mobil One oil.

I had the transaxle fluid replaced a year ago at 85,000 miles.

The stock GoodYear Integrity tires barely lasted 30,000 miles.
I replaced them with Michelin HydroEdge.
I'm ready to replace those now, but there's a global shortage of those
tires in the Prius size. I wrote Michelin, and they say they should be available
again this quarter. I sure hope so!

The car rides a bit rougher and rattles more than when it was new. I wonder
if the dealer has been skimping on the chassis lube?

I'm looking forward to the next 100,000 miles.

 

Forgot to mention - last year when I was trying to install the BT Tech Strut Tower Brace that doesn't fit, I went ahead and replaced the PCV value since I was in there already.

Reminds me to figure out something to do with the Brace - it's just sitting in the corner of my living room still. I was never able to get a response from Danny - either from posting here or via direct message - when I wrote him about my problems trying to install it. :-(

 

It is more likely that your front struts and rear shocks need to be replaced. There's really nothing to "lube".

 

Turned over 100,000 miles about a 1,000 miles ago. This is some automobile!

I've only had ONE minor glitch with the car - about a year(maybe two?) ago, I got into the car and noticed that I had NO spedometer, Mileage or gas tank (combi meter) display! Got to a gas station and went to shut down - but couldn't. Finally had to hold down the start button and it eventually shut down. I refuled and hoped all would start normally. It did. Combimeter came back up with no problems. Never had another problem with it.

No other mechanical problems. Same brakes. Still runs like a champ.

I do most of my own maintenance (Aircraft Mechanic), regular oil and filter (cabin and engine) changes. Keep the engine compartment and interior super clean (not hard to do on this car). I LOOK for problems for a living on the airplanes I maintain....I do the same thing with this car but I seldom find any!

I had the regular 100,000 mile stuff done (Inverter and regular coolant changed). Plus the serpentine belt. I will do the spark plugs myself near 120,000 (already purchasd them). I will also look at battery cooling fan for dirt in the near future.

This has been a great car (knocking on wood here). I think I will get the plug in when it comes out.

 

As you may have noticed, our maintenance schedule only goes up to 120k miles. I made a schedule that goes all the way to 300k miles.

Hi! I just bought a 2006 Prius with 116,000 miles on it! I love it! Drives as well as the Gen III's I test drove. I'm ordering an owner's manual from ebay as it didn't come with one... very interested in all maintenance info. /tips. My husband is not a car guy and I need all the help I can get! I plan on having this car for a long time!

 

Mileage is at 175,000 so far!
Bought my 2005 Prius new in April of 2005. I've always had a long commute, but it is an even 50/50 highway and local roads. I try to hypermile as much as I can, which gets me some incredible mileage rates. Kept up the standard oil changes and filter changes, and kept to the major services through the dealer. Starting to do more myself to save some change too. I've had 2 front end collisions and survived well. I installed a broken taillight using the forums' excellent instructions, and installed the Dice iPod interface as well. At over 52 mpg lifetime, I'd like to take this car to 300,000 if at all possible!

 

Hit 100k last week with the '05 purchased new in 11/05. Aside from regular maintenance, very little other work done. Still have original brakes with, so I am told, plenty left to go. Loved the car since the first day I drove it -- and still do.

Got our 2004 Prius in December 2003. Reached 165,000 this Summer but suddenly having problems that may be terminal.

Living in the Desert, where things are far apart, I have truly appreciated the mileage. The car has actually paid for itself, maintenance and all, when compared to the vehicles we would have continued driving.

 

Now at 106K. Just had the muffler replaced. Cheapest car I have ever owned as far as repairs. BY FAR the cheapest on gas and I have NEVER owned anything that would have qualified for the 'Cash for Clunkers' program. Also the only car I have driven to 100K. My 'normal' driving is ~11K/year. Was doing a weekly 400 mile round trip in addition to that for ~3 years, thus the 106K in 6 years (next week).
