    Hello,

I am new to the forums and am hoping some of you may have advise for me. I currently own a 2008 which I may sell to my son. I am looking at a used 2010, pk. II with 8k miles on it. As far as I can tell, the dealer invoice would be 21, 431 + about $760 dest. charge totaling $22,192. I know a new car depreciates the minute it leaves the lot, but Prius' less than others. This is a one owner car selling as Certified used at the dealer. What is a fair price for it? Should I really be considering a brand new 2010? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i'm not a toyota expert, but i would say 3K off the original sticker. depending on when it was bought, there might have been a rebate, or the dealer may have come off the sticker on the original sale.

i would see no reason to buy a brand new if you get a good deal on the used one. 8K miles is not much. I'd ask where the car came from, and if it was a local, then why was it traded back in.

Given we're at the end of the model year, and in light of the deals I see advertised on TV (0% financing, etc.), I suspect you could get a very good deal on a remaining 2010 new Prius.

    Give Edmunds.com website a look.

Plenty of info and ability to see True Market Value based on recent sales numbers.

I bought a brand new pkgIII almost three months ago and got aprox. $3,200 off of msrp. If I were in your shoes, I would start by demanding $6,000 off and settle on $5,000 ( since you can bet that they raped the person who traded it in ) , otherwise, you can get a brand new one for just about the price that you are going to pay for the used.

My advice ( for what it's worth ) is to go on edmunds.com, check out the true market value ( the price that others are paying ), just to get an idea, and put an offer out to several dealers in your area - which you can do from the Edmunds site, and offer $1000 below invoice. BE FIRM! They're getting incentives that we don't even know about that will get you close to that price AND all of the dealers will be tripping over themselves to beat the other dealers prices. That was how I got the deal that I got.

    Best of luck to you!

    Best of luck

i would seriously recommend just buying a new one. Especially since the dealers will soon do deep discounts on the 2010 models to make room for the 2011 models.

Thanks to all of you who replied! I appreciate your time and suggestions. One question though, on Edmunds.com, I can't seem to figure out how to get the TMV for a used 2010 Prius. When I try - it only allows me to choose from 3 Toyota models, none of which is the Prius???
It may be best to wait and try for a brand new 2010 when the 2011's start to show up - Oct. or Nov????
The dealer I spoke with regarding the used one, offered to go down to 21,500! In my estimation - that would likely be more than he paid for it a year ago! It was the color I wanted and was purchased at the same dealership and traded for one with leather and navigation.
