This is just getting weird. Aren't the parts department computer updated all the time?? Josh claimed that, when the Prius was first introduced, the suspension all had the same number...again, this is if you believe what Josh says. When he checked it recently (like i did), the parts number differ for the V shocks and springs. I need to check with my parts department to see if the FRONT springs are the same or not.
Maybe they can tell you if there was a running change during the model year. They try to keep that stuff up to date, but few things in life are perfect. I have occasionally run into the situation where some dealer parts weren't what was listed for my VIN. FWIW, my car was built May 2010.
Thai, try to relax, your posts make you sound like you're ADD or something. Just drop it, its hard to prove either way. Personally I believe Josh & the Prius marketing team...
Let's drop the assumptions here. Geez. Hey, i just want someone to give me a good explanation of the difference in parts number. If you don't care, then just go to the next thread. Josh has given an illogical, not relevant explanation that a few here (you included i guess) has accepted as fact. Prius Team has gone silent. Yes, we all know what has been repeated, but does it mean that it is right? Maybe. I believed it until i ran into the parts number difference. Now, i don't know...and am just trying to find an answer. And if you haven't notice, when i call Josh out on facts to back up his statements, he went MIA too. Sorry, i want something more than just word of mouth when the evidence to the contrary is right there. Call your local dealer to confirm what i have said. Easy to do.
Ok, called another parts department...these are the parts number: 17" rims: shocks front: 4852080228 rear: 4853080533 springs front: 4813147130 rear: 4823147130 15" rims: shocks front: 4852080230 rear: 4852080534 springs front: 4813147150 rear: 4823147190 ----------------------------------------------------- In other words, there is definitely differences b/w in the 17" rims and 15" rims, at least the parts have different ID to them. The parts number is solely dependent on rim size. BTW, this is the 3rd Toyota parts Department that i have called.
Hmm, i don't know...never seen it before (different parts #, same item). Even if a part gets updated, there is usually an added letter or number to denote an update has been done...almost never the same number. And if this is a "mistake" by Toyota, then why is the mistake on both the shocks and springs (front and rear)???? Are all Priuses (Prii) made in the same factory?
No, you can tell which factory by the VIN. http://priuschat.com/forums/attachm...meaning-vin-vin-decoder-2010-toyota-prius.pdf That sheet isn't very specific. I read someplace that there are 3 or 4 actual plants in Japan that make Prius.
Well, you have a V, just go get a II, disassemble both and have a look! LOL! Would be interesting to have both on a rack side by side to see if there is a significant difference...
Tell me about it!! I am just itching to buy a set of strut for each and compare! But, i think that my "extra rib" would not be happy with that purchase decision! I don't mind at all if all Prius has the same suspension. But, it just bothers me that i found this difference! (And yes, i have "issues.") And so far, no one (even the Prius Team) seems to know the answer. Oh well, need to take my anti-psychotic pill now....
I saw in the service manual about the motor difference..... And it says all Prius models in Mexico use the brushless motor vs just the 17" models here. Is the steering rack really that much faster too? I never found my III steering to be particularly slow, but that's a large difference. I wonder what would happen if you installed a V rack into a 15" model? Would the steering ECU need to be replaced too?
It has a full turn less from lock to lock. The difference is quite noticeable, and in my opinion, a considerable improvement. I have no idea if the steering ECU software would be different or not.
From another post that confirms the steering motor and alignment differences b/w Prius V/Five vs. others. The Repair Manual confirms "brushless type motor" and "brush type motor." Here is a copy of what is written: "Two types of power steering system are available for this model. A different type of motor is used for each system; a brushless type motor and a brush type motor. Refer to the table below to determine which type of motor is used. Types Type of Motor Model Brushless Type Motor: Mexico package models and models with 215/45R17 tiresBrush Type Motor: Other than those above" --------------------------------------------------------------------------- And yes, the alignment specs are slightly different b/w 17" rims and 15" rims. Here is a copy: "Camber (Unloaded Vehicle): Tire Size Camber Inclination Right-left Difference 195/65R15 -0°13' +/- 45' (-0.22° +/- 0.75°) -0°07' +/- 45' (-0.12° +/- 0.75°)* 45' (0.75°) or less 215/45R17 -0°12' +/- 45' (-0.20° +/- 0.75°)* For vehicle height for Rough Road Package. This package as noted above has NOTHING to do with 17" rims. "Rough road package" is for Prius with 15" rims in other countries.
I am also curious to get to the bottom of this. Continuing off of Thai's post (updated p/n): All of my part numbers were obtained using a 2015 Prius V, grade G for lookup, using Lakeland Toyota website. When I say "search" I mean on Lakeland's website. 17" rims: Shocks Front L: 4852080265 Description: "From 11/2010. From 12/2011. Stamped #48510-47140. To 11/2010. To 12/2011. Prius; Left. W/o Plug-In Model; Marked 48520-47140. W/o Plug-in, w/17" wheels." Rear: 4853080533. (I found: 4853080696) Description (for 80533): Fits PRIUS. Prius; w/o Plug-In Model; Marked 48530-47080. W/o Plug-in, w/17" wheel. I didn't find this part number listed in the Toyota parts when I used 2015 V, I found p/n 4853080696 (which states for plug-in). I didn't see any other p/n listed. BUT when I search for this specific p/n, it DOES come up as valid. When I use 2010 V, grade G (17" wheels), this is the ONLY p/n that comes up. Springs Front: 4813147130 Description: "Prius; w/o P195/65R15 Tires. W/o Plug-in, w/17" wheels." *** On another toyota parts site, this comes up as "MFR NOTE: KOREA SPEC"Rear: 4823147130 I didn't see it listed, but when I search for the specific number, it comes up. All it says is "Fits PRIUS" When I use 2010 V, I see p/n listed: 4823147130, 4823147140, 4823147190. Not sure what the difference is. *** ToyotaPartsDeals.com listed 48231-47130 comes up as "MFR NOTE: KOREA SPEC" *** ToyotaPartsDeals.com listed 48231-47140 as the p/n for USA 2010 rear spring. *** ToyotaPartsDeals.com listed 48231-47190 as "MEXICO SPEC&TIRE & DISC WHEEL-195/65R15 6J GENERAL COUNTRIES" *** When I use 2010 V, grade G (17" wheels), This is what's listed for shocks: F Left: 4852080265 (as above) also, F Left: 4851080490 Description: Fits Prius. From 12/2011. Stamped #48510-47110. This is different from the 15" below. It still says this part is available for purchase. ======================= 15" rims: Shocks Front L: 4852080293 Supersession(s): 4852080228; 48520-80265; 4852080265; 4852080294 Description: From 12/2011. Stamped #48520-47130. Prius; Left; w/o Plug-In Model; Marked 48520-47130. W/o Plug-in, w/15" wheels. Rear: 4852080534 I didn't see it listed, and when I search for the specific number, it DOES NOT comes up. Springs Front: 4813147150 I didn't find this part number listed in the Toyota parts, or any part number specific to the 15" model. BUT when I search for this specific p/n, it DOES come up as valid. When I use 2010 V for search, it comes up. Description: Fits PRIUS. Prius; w/P195/65R15 Tires. I also see: Spring, Front Coil, LH MEXICO SPEC&TIRE & DISC WHEEL-195/65R15 6J GENERAL COUNTRIES The only one I found was 4813147120 (see below), which had "Fits Plug-In" in the description, so I will assume it's for the Plug-In model. Rear: 4823147190 I didn't see it listed, but when I search for the specific number, it comes up. All it says is "Fits PRIUS" ============================ To further confuse things: PLUG-IN Shocks Front L: 4852080295 Supersession(s): 48520-80295; 4852080298; 4852080368; 4852080367; 4852080369 Description: 17" Wheels. Exc.17" Wheels. Fits PRIUS, Prius Plug-In. Prius; Left; w/Plug-In Model. W/o Plug-in, w/15" wheels. W/o Plug-in, w/17" wheels. W/Plug-in." -> So it's obvious this shock must be only for the Plug-In, despite the confusing description. Front Spring: 4813147120 Description: Fits PRIUS, Prius Plug-In. Prius; All. W/o Plug-in, w/15" wheels. W/Plug-in. I also found: this part fits: Production Date: 04/2009-12/2011 Fitting Vehicle Options: ZVW30 Rear Shock: I found: 4853080696 Supersession(s): 48530-80696; 4853080695; 4853080639 Description: Fits PRIUS, Prius Plug-In. Prius; w/o Plug-In Model; Marked 48530-47081. Prius; w/Plug-In Model. W/o Plug-in, w/15" wheel. W/o Plug-in, w/17" wheel. W/Plug-in. (I am going to assume the p/n I found is for plug-in. I did not find any other p/n listed for rear shocks.) =============================== -> What has me confused is the "from/to 11/2010 / 12/2011" in the 17" shock part number. Seems like the 2010-2011 models with 17" wheels came with different shocks, but then from 2012 onwards they were all the same? (See 15" shock where it says, "From 12/2011") I am replacing the shocks on my 2010 V, figuring out which ones to buy from Toyota. Here's the kicker: My prius was made in 04/2010. I bought a used set from a 2015 III model and BOTH springs are marked with the yellow & red marks. The shocks are different p/n, though. The shock has p/n 48510-47131 on it, which doesn't correspond to anything above. I'm attributing this to model updates through the years. When I type in 48510-47131 (used replacement I bought) into google, p/n 48510-80575 comes up. With description Right front. Stamped #48510-47141. Exc.17" Wheels. Stamped #48510-47131. Prius. Right. With plug-in EDIT: When I googled My shock p/n 48510-47090, I came up with 48510-80488 (marked 48510-47090). Which also states, "replaced by 48510-80542". This is the 17" rims R Shock p/n that corresponds with the above left shock.
