Who knew? You guys knew? I didnt see anything (didnt look really hard though) that would have led me to believe that the car would actually GO if I wanted it to. Three weeks, ~800 miles, I've been all about MPG. This morning right before getting on the highway for some reason I decided to see what the power button is about. LOL! SHE WENT! I really didnt think the car had anything close to offer. I'm not saying anything other than there is plenty there when you want it... I really had no idea. Happier with the car everytime I drive it
LOL Dark side. I try to resist the use of that button too. I have burned rubber using it a few times when I gunned it too much. Who knew!
I haven't actually tried to lay a strip yet. aahh, I am too old for that stuff anyway. I will take your word for it.
lmao damn i just noticed. well considering that blizzard is the BEST COLOR EVER...and there tends to be more cooler people than normal people haha
Does the Power Mode on our Prius do anything else than just increase throttle sensitivity? The upcoming CT200h apparently can get the battery to output more voltage (or something like that) in PWR mode to actually get more power.
Hey, another Blizzard here, mine came with Bridgestone Eco-something tires. They any good? I'm still within the break-in mileage, so no burning rubber for me!
The only thing Power mode does is change pedal mapping for the first half of the throttle pedal travel. Most cars are like this, so it makes the Prius "feel" a little more like your old GT-whatever. The only reason Toyota included the "mode buttons" is so we would not run out of topics on PC. At anything over about half throttle everything is the same including the total amount of power available. The ECO mode provides finer control for the first half of travel and a more economical AC mode. Normal is in between the other two as far as pedal response and more like the Gen2 Prius.
Yeah, i knew it when i asked the question...i know that it has been talked about to death on here...but i was hoping for a "cliff note" version...and thanks for the short version!
That's my understanding, it simply offers a different calibration (more agressive) between pedal position and throttle opening. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but you're dipping the same bucket into the same well, just faster. But there is no "secret source" of power that is being released, if you floor it in Normal or ECO you ultimately would have the same response, just your foot would be closer to the floor before you'd notice it. Think about it. The Prius is designed to be economical, so HSD blends it's useage of battery and ice to gain efficiency. But if you divorce the battery and electric from the picture, you still have a light vehicle, aerodynamic vehicle with a 1.5 liter engine...which is no super powerhouse, but SHOULD move you if you punch it. So it shouldn't suprise anyone that The Prius can accelerate, and the button and the mode are labeled and called POWER...what did you expect?
I am SURE that there is hidden power...i just know it!! Maybe when the CT200h comes out, we can get the ECU programming or whatever it is...so that we can tap into this "hidden" power source!
Try making a right turn in ECO and PWR modes... I'm thinking PWR mode will induce chirps from the tyres while ECO mode won't. (I haven't tried ECO but in PWR, it does). Yes it's throttle mapping but it also means the power comes on faster than in ECO.
