Energy Saver A/S has higher UTQG rating (460 vs 400) than Ecopia EP100. Wouldn't it last longer then?

    That is one theory.

However one manufacturer's rating of 400 for a given tire model may not result in the same tire tread life as a tire produced by another manufacturer with the same 400 rating for a different tire model. These ratings are "self" assigned, so I think that the UTQG ratings are mostly useful for comparing various tire models produced by one manufacturer.

I agree except in the case where the tires are so much more expensive that any potential increase in MPG is eaten up by the extra cost per tire. In some cases you will never recover the extra cost with the increase in MPG. That is why the Ecopia EP100 is such a great deal. You will not recover the extra $120-$200 you spent on the Michelin over the Ecopia unless the Ecopia wears out REALLY fast compared to the Michelin. In my case I went with the dB Super E-Spec because I could save fuel and use less oil due to the construction of the tire but I spent as much per tire as I would on a Michelin on sale. So at least in this case I could feel better about the added expense. The Michelin just doesn't make me feel good because there is no added bonus over the E-Spec or the Ecopia or the Hankook for those in severe climates. :)

Hey guys, I've been reading all these tire forums...have an '08 35k and I was really hoping to get my hands on the Michelin Hydroedge tires...no can do, backordered by everyone!!! I live in Minnesota, so snow has to come into consideration. Nokians are built for winter; they'll totally destroy summer MPG. The Ecopia's sound like a summer tire, and I need all-season. There seems to be some nervousness about the Michelin Energy Savers. So, I basically am down to getting a straight Michelin tire (Harmony, Destiny, Primacy, etc...) or finding something else. Any recommendations guys? I'm hurtin' here!!!

    Thanks!

Did you rule out the Hankook Optimo H727?

Do they make the optimo H727 in a 185-65R15?

No, the Nokian WRg2 tires are LRR and will save gas over the original GY Integity tires and very good in snow/ice. The earlier WRs were also LRR and even better in snow (but a bit noisy).

No, but the 195/60/15 works great according to other members who have purchased them. :)

So the Nokian WRg2 has a lower RR than the Integrities that come on it? I talked to a dealer up here and he mentioned they were noisy as well...anyone else confirm that?

Also, can I put a 195 on a standard rim? Any drop in mpg for a wider tire?

    Thanks for the quick replies!

Can you put a wider tire on the stock rim? Any loss in MPG?

Nokian WR was a noisy tire, the WRg2 is quiet when it is new. Some tires get noisy as they wear.

A wider tire does cost a little MPG, but a 195/60 will fit and keep the speedo reasonably accurate. I put on 185/65 and went with the H-rated version for tire strength. Avoid any "runflat" models as they produce an significant MPG hit.

Decent? Meaning, close to the originals? Or...a little less...

Ok, so, looking at the Nokians now...WRg2's should be close to the mileage I got before, anyone know anything about their mileage warranties or any of the other models besides the WRg2 or the i3?

My comparison was for all season/summer tires (Michelin, E-Spec, Ecopia) so I didn't include the Hankooks. I referred to those later to answer someone else's question about good all season/winter tires. Sorry if I am writing in a confusing manner, I'm working and only paying partial attention. :)

The Nokian i3's are a fantastic tire with great handling and rolling resistance (MPG) but not as readily available in all areas, at least not for great prices. :( I am not sure I would want to use them in areas with real winter weather (lots of ice and snow) when other alternatives are available.
