2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

Using pencil and paper for the same 4800 48.3 MPG

It looks to me like the computer is off ...about 6% high.

Does anyone know what the accuracy of the computer/sensors
is supposed to be?

I haven't done a formal study, but around 5% optimistic for the trip meter seems to be about average. No idea what it is supposed to be, I suspect their design goal or internal specification would be difficult to get a hold of.

Considering Toyota's engineering ability, I think it's safe to assume that the approximately 5% optimistic MPG figure is intentional.

 

I am now getting approx 52 mpg and feel bad when it slips below 50. I actually am getting better mileage than the computer says.

I have 11983 km or 7445 miles on mine with 15 fill-ups and sit at 5.21% high. I was at 5.76% until this last tank when my calc actually worked out better then the computer's for the first time?? I've also had one tank off as much as 12%? so it seems like a moving target.

I would say your 6% (probably rounded?) seems about normal.

I just got my 2010 Pruis II. Traded a Passat W8 that I once GPS'd at 128 mph at 4500 rpm when the governor kicked in. I got tired to the maintenance cost to keep it in perfect condition. It got 17 to 22.4 mpg depending on season and where driven. I decided to top off my Prius after the first 133 miles. It took two gallons. The service station guy asked why I needed so little, then caught himself, and said, "Oh, a Prius." It is twice as much fun to get good mileage as to go fast.

 

I'll second that statment! Congrats on the new Prius btw and welcome to the forum.

I use to drive a little 325i and had it up to 220 kph (~136mph) once, kinda silly when I think about it now .. oh well! It's much more fun (not to mention safer) to try and pull better mileage then speed:rockon:

 

I have a Prius IV and only getting 38 MPG locally and 43 highway. It's my third Prius and the dealer tries to tell me I don't know how to drive a Prius. He did a "well test" and says there is nothing wrong. HELP!!!

After about 4K miles, I'm averaging 52.1 MPG. My best tank was around 55 MPG. I live in Socal and commute from Corona to Irvine everyday which is a 68 mile round trip. I've noticed that when I go up long hills (i.e. the 241 toll road) my MPG drops significantly. Whenever my wife drives the Prius the MPG always dips below 50 MPG, but I can usually get it back over 50 MPG pretty quickly. I probably use the AC about 50% of the time and I usually keep it at 78 degrees.

last couple of tanks have been excellent (weather? driving style? a combo?) All have been close to 500 miles or more than 500 miles. Commute is 35 miles/direction, 90% highway, and of course driving on the weekends (varies but probably 75/25 highway / city)

My recent stats are almost exactly the same at quantumslip's--for both the computer generated mpg and my hand calculated stats. This retired old lady is delighted with my highest calculated of 52.6, and even the lowest (very cold December weather for Oregon) of 42.7. Have managed not to use AC until last tank, but 100 degree temp on a day I had to travel forced me into it, plus shorter AC uses this tank--and I got 51.4. Drove to nearly identical locations about 40 miles away two hot days in a row--same route--got 57 mpg on both runs--one with AC both says and the other AC for only about 30 miles. AC on 79-80, ECO always, 7500 miles. I'm over-the-moon happy with this car--but only because of learning how to drive it on this wonderful forum! :cheer2:

 

Just filled up today for my best mileage in 6 fill ups. I am increasing my mpg each fill up. I went 459.1 miles on 8.859 gals for a calculated average of 51.82 mpg. The computer was reading 54.3mpg. This fill up included 50% hwy miles up and down the Texas hills in 100+ temps.
I am really happy with my Prius! :cheer2:

 

Prius owners claiming 60 mpg or more do not sound credible.

 

If you drive on smooth level , flat roads, with no wind, temps 70-75 degrees, tires inflated to max psi in all 4 tires, and drive at a steady 45 mph, you will get at least 60 mpg.

I got about 521 at 62.7 MPG.

 

There is a standard mpg number on steady speed on highway, 60mpg at 60mph.
If you go faster, you will see worse mpg.
If you go slower, you will see better mpg.
Following is an example, 32km/L(75mpg) at 80km/h(50mph).

I have 12 tanks now with 61.2 mpg HSI, 59.6 pump. Each tank was within 1.5 mpg of this average. No matter whose technique I use , I always get the same mpg. I do some city driving but most on the road, at 55-65 mph . I use pulse and glide extensively . I make 2 runs per week of 200 miles round trip in hilly country. Tires at 44 psi, no AC, use the road grade to determine which mode to choose. Avg mph is always around 40 . I have been trying to get to 70 mpg which I got consistently in my old 2000 Insight, but can not seem to budge it off 60. Still trying. When winter comes I expect to loose 5 mpg or so. Ted

 

Check Marks. Avg mph - it is only 24...That accounts for the big difference.
