New member, LONG time Toyota owner. Hope to get a type II 2010 this weekend. Been very busy reading and there are a lot of great tips and guidelines for the Prius on here. Glad I found the site! Will be lurking a bit for a while as I read, learn, and hopefully obtain, but thought it would be appropriate to poke my head in and say hi! so..........."HI"!
Welcome! I know everyone has different needs but don't not consider the Prius III for the extra $1000. If you would find it useful, keep in mind you'd get bluetooth and the upgraded JBL system which has a 6 disk cd changer and 2 extra speakers for that money. Also, you'd get the XM built in but some know they do not want it which is why I use it as a last 'selling point' haha. Either way, II or III, I am certain you'll enjoy your Prius!
OAT is shown on the climate control display. Toyota went to a 4 CD changer in the G3. G2 had the 6 CD changer.
oh cool, thanks JimN I can't quite see spending 1k for audio and bluetooth. I mean, sure, better audio is great, but 1k? Just my two cents I suppose. Thanks all for the input!! Always like hearing new info!
Gen III Prius with the JBL radio have a 6 disk cd changer still. It's only when you get Navigation in the Gen III you get a 4 disk cd changer.
I'd recommend you sit in both (II and a III) and listen to the respective stereo's. I spend 2 hours a day commuting, so having a nicer stereo system was a plus (I got a pkg IV) since I use it for 2 hours a day. XM is fun! 80's music all the time and no commercials. I try not to use my phone when I drive, but having the blue tooth is very nice for the times I do need to use it or when I receive calls. I liked the feel of the leather interior + lumbar support as well as the feel of the leather arm rests. I went with a IV. As much as I liked the handling of the V, I drive a lot, a cushier ride was going to be a higher priority.
I just got my Prius 2010 II, and I think the audio system is fine. I only listen to a small amount of music though, most of it is talk radio. You can get a standalone XM player that transmits to your car for around $80 if thats what you want.
Just a thought .. You may want to see what August pricing brings as the incentives may be getting better. If not, u can get a 2011 in Sept for a few bucks more.. Good luck and enjoy
Thanks all! After reading a bunch on this forum, and also talking to several owners in person, I feel much more educated BEFORE I head out to any dealer. Should come in handy there and afterwards!!
Are you saying that you haven't e-mailed the perspective dealers and gotten quotes? You should do that before visiting in person. Good luck!
visit my "dealerships experiences in phoenix az" thread here if you want my experience buying a Prius II in the course of one day. http://priuschat.com/forums/dealers-pricing/82573-dealership-experiences-in-phoenix-az.html i'd recommend just getting the Prius II. THe only thing the III has is the upgraded sound system and bluetooth. But honestly, and there is debate of course, you could just use that extra $1000 and install your own sound aftermarket sound system. Aftermarket upgrades are a tad more difficult with the JBL system already in place.
Sorry, guess I haven't shared all the details, but I have been to a few dealers and gotten pricing. The dealership I am headed to I have e mailed what I want and what I will pay for it. Since the dealership is a good drive away, I told them, get me the price I want and we are good. If I get there and it is not what we e mailed about, I walk. Plain and simple. I have a good car, so either they meet my terms or I continue to drive what I have. We shall see what happens Good info on the thread Colonel Ronson, and I thank you.
I hear ya Spiderman! That will be my nemesis LOL but i will remain firm. after all this is something I don't have to do.... so if the deal is not right, I walk!
dude, take the lease deal, prius 3 for 260 down 260 a month 36 months 12K miles a year. listen to the JBL system, it rocks. blutooth works well too. either way you will love the car.
Enjoy your Prius! I know I have enjoyed mine in the week I've had it, already at 50.4 MPG and half a tank left after 8 days. I would have filled up by now! I got the III for the built-in BT mostly, but the JBL was a nice addition with the built-in XM since I had Sirius in my other car. Figured the BT will be good a few years down the road when it's illegal to use a cell phone without hands-free, and it'll be built-in. Looked at a II with the BT addition but the price difference was not much and I preferred the steering wheel controls. Either way you go, you'll like it!
