So, I drop my car off yesterday at Hayward Toyota to have an entire driver's inner door panel replaced (armrest cracked). They let me know there is an outstanding recall. I showed the service advisor how there is 2" clearance all around the gas pedal and that I don't want the pedal cut (the recall). On my way to work in my truck, he calls and asks - can we do the gas pedal recall on your car, otherwise I have to fill out all sorts of paperwork and have you sign a waiver ... I say, well, go ahead. I call back and ask if I get to keep my floor mat. He says yes, confirms I have the correct floor mat correctly installed. All while the recall letter states - this condition doesn't exist in cars with correct floor mats that are secured. Then tech cracks the new door panel installing it. Cool.
Feh! If the pedal wasn't inconveniencing you, why cut it? You may not like the new "shorter" pedal (not your problem if it involves oodles of paperwork). Bummer about your door, I hope it resolves itself soon. Maybe they should hold onto your car for awhile and let you drive around a loaner Blue Ribbon Metallic Prius V for your troubles.
I took my car to the dealer a couple weeks ago for an oil change and they offered to do the pedal shaving. When I declined, they first tried to get me to agree by making sure I knew it was at no charge to me. When I said "No, thanks" they readily dropped the issue. There was no complaint about them having to fill out any paperwork and I was not asked to sign anything. My guess is that your dealer is pushing to do the service because they can bill Toyota for the "repair" and most dealers are hurting for business these days.
Pedal has been cut. One advisor in Milpitas said don't worry if doesn't bother. Obviously I caved in to Hayward Toyota since wasn't 100% set on not having it done. I complied. I don't notice much difference in pedal feel. Looks like they removed the reported 3/4" length then shaped bottom of pedal. And the new door panel is fine.
They offered to replace the door panel under basic warranty. It was my fault the armrest cracked due to lifting with elbow to ease butt pain on the terrible stock seat. Not a problem anymore.
Same here. I looked carefully, it does not look like that it was cut, the molded edges, etc., look like a new shorter pedal. Do they have two options? Maybe they took the old ones back to use on Tundras... My foot (feet?) does not feel any difference. Dealers bill Toyota. I felt that I was helping job creation but it is also almost certainly money wasted.
You got suckered. Just sign a piece of paper you don't want it at the dealer and they leave it alone. When you trade or sell the car, it can be done at any Toyota dealer for free. Though it isn't needed. This whole business smacks of UAW's retaliation against the Japanese car industry. Toyota got picked on because they are no.1.
When mine was in for the inverter pump they cut the pedal with no authorization or warning whatsoever. Never even asked, they just did it. I was and still am livid. How dare they take a saw to my property without my authorization.
Mine definitely looks cut and shaped. Seems case of NHTSA pressuring Toyota pressuring dealers to comply. It's all rather strange. Too much to expect all to use common sense operating their car (i.e. proper, secured floor mat that does not impede pedal, duh)
Yeah, I caved. anyrate, you know me and pics ... Silly things is, I'm sure one could find floor mats that would entrap this modified gas pedal.
Yeah, there's Obama driving the Volt off the line ... at Chrysler - 'see, the bailout was right'. I wonder ... did Chrysler hire due to increased demand for theirs, or our tax dollars are flowing in?
