My 2007 Prius Touring - mods inside!

    So I just picked up a Prius a few weeks ago and joined this lovely forum. The car is a 2007 Prius Touring, all stock, with limo tint (going to change soon!).

    The day I picked up the car, I already had a mod list going. Here's what I have planned so far.

    1) Wheels - Work XD9 Matte Grey Silver Finish - 17x7.5 +32 wrapped in 205/45R17 Yokohama S.Drives
    *Just got these today, installed pictures coming shortly!

    2) Drop - H&R lowering springs - 1.4" front and 0.7" rear. Part #29062-1 (on order)

    3) Interior - 12SMD LED panels in the dome, 2SMD vanity mirror bulbs, 6SMD panels for the doors, 24SMD panel for the rear dome. 2SMD front facing wedge bulbs for the license plate purchased from LuxuryMods.com
    Front driver & passenger doors received 6SMD panels. Super BRIGHT!

    4) Exterior - JDM Window Visors from Japan (on order)

    5) CarPC (carputer) setup using Beat-Sonic double-din kit. Still trying to figure out the wiring harness situation to maintain steering wheel controls.

    6) HID Retrofit - The car came with some leaky headlights, so I plan to rip them apart, mount some FX bi-xenon projectors or possibly LS460 bixenon projectors. I have some LS600hL triple LED projectors also, but they might be too wide! :mad:

    Update: 7/23/10
    7) LED additions to headlight/taillight - Adding a dual white/amber strip to the headlights to act as DRL/Blinkers. Adding dual red/amber strip to the taillights to act as Brake/Blinkers.

    That's all for now and I've only had the car for 2-3 weeks, haha. I average 50+ mpg on my commutes and I know my new wheel setup will ruin it, but it makes a dull car fun for me so I don't mind...

    Nice list of mods! My next project will be retrofit a Morimoto mini D2S projector into stock H4 housing.

    That's a good list but one major question for you - why did you get the Touring if you're going to modify all it's Touring "upgrades? (rims)" Do the Touring shocks stay in place even with adding the lowering springs? Did you ever consider coilovers instead? I only ask because I am interested in these similar mods but feel I wouldve wasted extra money since I have the Touring... You see my predicament?


    If I had a basic Prius package I'd drop that sucker and trick it out in a flash...word.

    I love the XD-9's, one of my favorite Work monoblock wheels. They are on the heavy side but they have nice sized lips for high offsets.

    I'd go with with LS460. They have a sharper cutoff.

    Interesting, didn't know they had a mini-D2S, I have the mini-H1's right now...

    The Touring mainly for the upgraded shocks & sway bars. The wheels are bleh so it has to go. The car still feels like it's floating on air so naturally I had to drop it as well. Still using the stock shocks for now as they're still in good shape.

    Coilovers eventually, but right now, I got a killer deal on H&R's so I'm going that route.

    So in your predicament, it's $300 springs vs $1300+ for nice coils. For my use, I didn't need the adjustable height settings.

    Yep, a bit heavy but again, got a killer deal I couldn't pass up. Oh well, I'll lose a few MPG, but hey, I've got 50+ mpg to play with :D

    Cutoffs are all pretty similar across the board, I'd say the FX has more color. But for width, the LS wins hands down. It'll be a very tough fit and lots of modification. I'm waiting for my spare headlight to come in so I can start to experiment.

    By chance were you thinking about the Ohlins kit (sigma has it)? I wonder if anyone has installed that.

    EDIT: my mistake, it's a Bilstein kit, not an Ohlins.

    What kind of deal did you get on the H&R springs? You think you could hook me up?

    So you just bring those lowering springs to an auto-tuner and thats it? I am soooo not car savvy.

    And why would you lose mpg by lowering your car. Shouldn't it improve MPG with less resistance and lower center of gravity?

    They are nice, but I wouldn't use them as main projectors, only in addition to another larger projector. The width is lacking for my tastes...

    I've seen that, but I was thinking more along the lines of TRD Sportivo or HKS Hipermax. Eventually...

    Sure, shoot me a PM and I'll help you out.

    Lowering helps, but the addition of heavier wheels + bigger tires makes you lose some MPG. But again, I don't care, a lot of people here are REALLY big on that. With so much to start with, it doesn't hurt to lose a few as a trade off for nice looks.:cool:

    The HKS is probably a pretty nice set - at least you're in Cali where you don't have to worry about road salt like me in Chicago. That's honestly been the only thing keeping me from doing the suspension. usbseawolf2000 has the Tanabe Sustec Pro NF set and he's been though a winter (in Queens, NY no less) and he still seems happy.

    No rust yet. The spirals are aluminum so it can't rust. Only road dirt gets on it. I use tire cleaning brush to clean it off.

    I adjusted the height / stiffness many times to my liking. I came to a balanced spot where it is not too low nor too harsh. My tire pressure is now back to stock 35/33 PSI. Even with this config, the car bottom out with some of the big bumps and potholes.

    To give reference to those live in NYC... From Cross Island Pkwy joining Van Wyck (near Whitestone Multiplex Cinema) there is a big bump where two sections meet (reconstructed). I have to go below 55 MPH or the car will bottom out (hits hard and really feel it).

    Front Coil-overs are 3 lbs lighter than stock (11 lbs vs 14 lbs). Rears are about the same (~10 lbs).

    Hey Fingas, welcome to the forum!
    I myself recently picked up a used 2007 and wanted to get some rims. I'm very interested to see the +32 offset on the car, can't wait for the pics.

    Heres a quick shot from my cell phone, hopefully the springs will be arriving soon.

    Notes: w/ this setup, the car rubs in the front slightly on big dips @ high speeds. Once it's lowered, I shouldn't have this issue anymore.

    The rear fits nice, would like to slap on a spacer to make it a bit flush similar to the front once it's lowered. The Yokohama S.Drives are awesome, quiet and smooth, I haven't done any spirited driving in them yet, but I'm sure it'll be nice.

    Thanks for the pics fingas. The front definitely sticks out more than the rears.

    What do you mean that lowering will fix the rubbing issues in the front? Won't it make it worse? Are you going to roll the fenders?

    Lowering naturally makes the wheels camber, so I should have more fender clearance at that point. I don't think I will have to roll fenders with this given offset. I was going to go lower in offset, but didn't want to hassle w/ fender mods.

    On a strut based suspension, any additional camber gained from lowering (via lowering springs) is the exact same as you'd have by adding a bunch of weight to the car - it won't affect rubbing at all and in fact may increase rubbing depending on the spring rate as you'll have less compression suspension travel.

    You'll have to increase camber to decrease rubbing if it is rubbing on the fender or outer edge of the fender liner.

    If you like to corner aggressively I'd recommend 1-2* negative camber, anyway.

    I hope the camber adjustments go well..:eek: Kinda hard to predict how far in the wheel is going to as a result of lowering the vehicle.
