Thank you everyone for your help. We bought an inverter and misc. parts required, installed it, tested it, and then spent about 2 weeks on vacation using it. It worked perfectly. I was able to charge my toothbrush and ipod as well. We did have some problems with our Prius, though. I will be posting those next. At any rate, the Prius is a great generator. Our RV is a Prius!
Glad that worked for you. Plz report everything about the problems with your Prius. The collective expertise here (not mine) will be able to parse whether those had anything to do with your inverter install. My interest is mostly theoretical, since we no longer even car-camp, but who knows what other applications might arise. As a long-ago and mercifully-brief girlfriend said, "Camping is a hotel room with bad TV." Still LOL. Fellow CPAP user
I have an inverter hooked up in my Pri, I use it to power the house during blackouts. Keeps the heat on!
I'm assuming the problems you had with your Prius had nothing to do with the inverter or CPAP experiment? Otherwise how could you call it a "Complete Success"? So now I'm curious....what problems did you have?
I posted 3 threads. 1, CPAP 2. chirping noise that seems to come from brakes, when the car is beginning to move or just stopping, mostly backwards, and possibly forwards. 3. we ground out on a tree stump and a part that looks like a black plastic part that holds wires in place fell off the car. We are pretty sure 2 did not come from inverter. We are positive 3 did not come from inverter.
