Past few month Japan has been shock by earthquakes quite alot. Yet another large quake has been shock northern part of Tokyo. My hometown is not effected and I'm not in Japan  I'm in NYC. Can't win against mother nature.
I am on the Pacific coast in Chiba - the quake was quite strong here today. Even the dog was growling during the shake. Fortunately we had no damage but just north of here it looks like buildings were damaged and injuries are still being reported. I have to drive along the coast tomorrow - I hope the tunnels are all safe!
Glad to hear you didn't have any damange, fjef. We get earthquakes very infrequently in the Pacific Northwest, and they're considerably less powerful than the ones you're used to. On the other hand -- tropical storms and hurricanes are less of a problem here. Maybe it evens out.
Pick your evil! Seattle (Me) - minor earthquakes, active volcanos and Microsoft. California - earthquakes, crazy driving and Arnold. Mid West - tornados. The house is on wheels folks, move? Florida - hurricanes and Jed. Michigan - hard winters. Arizona - heat and things that bite.
gee Speedracer...wouldnt that be "Mother Earth?"... being on the "Rim of Fire" means a lot of activity. but like the Pacific Northwest, Japans natural beauty is the result of that activity. so its both a blessing and a curse. curse as it may be, but at least you are much more able to deal with it than we are. our earthquake retrofiting is woefully behind schedule. even after the Niqually Quake (centered less than a mile from where i was living at the time) wakeup call, we are still slow to get things prepared here.
