My father's prius recently did a very strange thing. When he tried to start the car, some lights came on and several alarms went off, but the car would not start. Then when he tried to turn it off, it would not turn off....the car had to be towed to the dealer, alarms going strong. At first the dealership tried to say it was my father's fault, that he didn't know how to start the car properly. After keeping the car for several days, they finally got it to repeat it's odd performance. So my question is this: has this happened to anyone else? What do you think the problem is? the computer?
welcome to Prius chat. In order to offer any sort of opinions on what could be the problem, it would be helpful if we knew a few things. How old is the Prius? Were there any error codes? What does the dealer/mechanic say the trouble is?
No it might be something different, since the Error messages in the Prius are often misleading. I had a different situation a few days ago. When starting the car and putting it in Drive I got the Error Message "Put the Car in P-Position when parking". I could track the error down and it was: Drivers door not properly closed. So maybe it is a misleading error message as in my case.
