Fuel consumption - Munich to Winterthur

I wanted to share with you the fuel consumption I achieved on a trip from Munich, Germany to Winterthur in Switzerland.

Overall distance about 290km (mostly hilly highway, some flat and some city with stop&go, a few roadworks at 80km/h max; a bit of everything really), temperature around 25C, using A/C, radio with iPod, 17" stock wheels, prescribed tire pressure, driving always no more than 10km/h more than allowed speed, which means:

Germany: 140km/h (in some areas 130km/h and in tunnels no more than 90km/h)
Austria: 140km/h (in a long Tunnel in Bregenz not more than 90km/h)
Switzerland: 130km/h.

The above is for highways. In Germany I had twice the "desire" (call it this way) to go a bit faster, reaching both times 190km/h for about a minute.
In all 3 countries, town driving is 50km/h max (drove no more than 60km/h) and outside of town, no more than 90km/h.

Used the cruise control only on the highway, where it made sense.
PWR mode the whole time.

Attached the pictures for the trip to and back from Winterthur. Please note the average speed and add the usual 5% for real fuel consumption.

Not bad, considering this car is not a diesel...IMHO.

 

Italian Magazine "Quattroruote" tested the Prius back in September and got the following data points (on test track):
90km/h (56mph) --> 26,8km/L - 3,73L/100km (63mpg)
100km/h (62mph) --> 23,4km/L - 4,27L/100km (55.1mpg)
130km/h (81mph) --> 15,4km/L - 6,49L/100km (36mpg)
150km/h (93mph) --> 11,7km/L - 8,55L/100km (27.5mpg)
"Real life driving around Milan":
City --> 29,4km/L - 3,4L/100km (69mpg)
Suburban --> 21,3km/L - 4,7L/100km (50mpg)
Highway (130km/h () with overtaking, etc.) --> 13,7km/L - 7,3L/100km - (32mpg)

My real life experience, though, is that even the numbers above for highway speed are not that good in absolute terms, the truth is that as soon as you hit a traffic jam due to road works or traffic (as it is very often on EU highway, or at least where I drive), the Prius kicks in with averaging the numbers above with a nice 0L/100km, and the fuel consumption goes down, down, down... (see my reference to post, below)

In comparison my 1.4L TDI Polo (after 7 years of usage and very good maintenance) would get (half the HP, lighter weight):
80km/h (50mph) --> 25,64km/L - 3,9L/100km (60mpg)
100km/h (62mph) --> 20,41km/L - 4,9L/100km (48mpg)
120km/h (74mph) --> 16,14km/L - 6,2L/100km (38mpg)
150km/h (93mph) --> 14,29km/L - 7L/100km (34mpg)
170km/h (105mph) --> 12,5km/L - 8L/100km (29.4mpg)
(the above are readings on "almost" flat highway, hard to get here in the area, from the instantaneous fuel consumption display; you can probably add +5%, though I never calculated what was the error of the display)
