Does anyone have a list of air filters (engine and cabin) and their associated part nbrs from typical parts stores that will work in a 2004 Prius ? I generally don't buy parts at dealerships due to the inflated costs. Thanks in advance.

You could buy the correct Toyota engine air filter for $13 each, and the cabin air filter for $15 each, from a number of Toyota dealers that sell discounted parts over the web. Of course shipping is extra, but sales tax is not assessed. For example: Toyota Parts, Toyota Venza Parts, TRD Supercharger, Genuine Toyota Parts, Toyota Accessories, Toyota World, Discounts on Toyota Parts I suggest that you order a sufficient qty of parts to leverage the shipping charge.
I was initially hesitant to purchase from a website that didn't list an actual physical address, especially since the "Order Toyota Parts Online" link on the left seems to go to another site (trademotion.com?). I went with it anyway though since others on the forum didn't seem to have any problems with the merchant. The return address on my delivery said "Champion Toyota, 11711 Gulf Freeway, Houston, TX". I ordered 2 charcoal cabin air filters (MSRP=$35, paid=$26.25) and 2 engine air filters (MSRP=$18, paid=$13.68) and shipping was still only $10.50. When I opened the charcoal cabin air filter box, I initially thought they sent me the wrong item since it looks different from the flimsy regular cabin air filter. The charcoal cabin air filter has rigid sides and is not bendable like the regular cabin air filter. Even though the charcoal filter is a different format, it still fit into the housing. I've include photos of both for comparison.
What inflated costs? The OEM filter is made in japan, so that's high quality. THe only aftermarket filter im aware of with just as high quality is a WIX filter, but those run for $20+ dollars. The Air Filter you can buy for $13-$14 on most dealer's online part websites, or check ebay. Cheaper filters are probably made in china and are of questionable quality.
