Hello. At 50K miles, I need 4 new tires for my 2006 and am inclined towards the Michelin Energy Saver A/S based on this month's Consumer Report article on LRR tires as well as the Aug 2009 Tirerack article. I would appreciate any info about the Michelin Energy Saver A/S as well as my other top contender, the Michelin HydroEdge. Why does the HydroEdge come with a 90K mile warranty whereas the Energy Save A/S does not have a warranty at all? Thank you.
Every tire has tradeoffs. As the CR review demonstrates, the A/S sacrifices tread life for rolling resistance. As to why Michelin chose to offer no mileage warranty at all on the A/S, I can't say. I have a hunch marketing has something to do with it. In other words, either a 90,000 mile warranty or an 8% potential fuel savings may be deemed enough to entice a potential buyer to spend $500+ on a set; both aren't needed. I have about 45K miles on my Hydroedges now. I doubt seriously they'll make it to 90K miles, but their tread life has been considerably better than the OEM Integritys. They also handle considerably better on wet and dry pavement and in snow, though they're a bit noisier. The A/S caught my eye too. It will be a serious contender next time I buy tires.
Yes! The Michelin Energy Saver A/S is a fine tire. I have them for about the last 6 months. Immediately upon installing them I noticed a 3-4 MPG improvement. Highly recommended. Marvinh
Consider also the Michelin Primacy MXV4. Available now in 15" wheel sizes, said to become available in Gen III 17" size in October. *Top-rated among Consumer Report's November 2009 report in their "Performance All-season (H speed rating, not that we need that)" list. They rate it Excellent in rolling resistance. *At TireRack.com, it is top-rated in their "GT All-Season Touring" list, right above the General Altimax HP (rated only Fair by CR in rolling resistance). Also highly rated in tread wear. The right tire is the one that fits your requirements.
The Michelin Primacy MXV4 is not a LRR tire. I know because I had the Primacy and I switched to the Energy Saver A/S. Marvinh
