ok stop laughing. old age and maybe a used Back after 50+ years...my lower left back has an area that is below the lumbar support in the IV prius thus it gets no support from the 2010 driver seat it seems. does anyone use one of those office chair lower back pillows in their 2010 prius? if so do share where you got it please...doubt they make one designed for a prius but will do a google search later today thanks
I've found the support pillow listed in Amazon quite helpful - as does my wife. Hope this helps. Just go to Amazon.com and do a search under "back hugger". It's available in 4 colors. I have a Bisque interior and the beige pillow is nearly a match.
I have the opposite of a lumbar support; a wedge-shaped pillow stuffed into the crack between seat and back that makes it more curved and "buckety". Works for me, won't for everyone. . _H*
ok this is not fun nor funny anymore. Drove the prius about 5 or 5.5 hours today and my lower back feels like it should be in traction or a wheel chair. What am I doing wrong would someone please help me...
I think this is just something you have to play around with. I've had to make small seat mods for over 20 years and it was pure trial and error. In my 83 Camry, I needed a little foam down at the base of the seat. In most seats, including my Prius, I need a small bit of lumbar support. A good way to try temporary solutions is to roll up a hand towel and see what feels good. I currently use a bit of artificial sheepskin that my wife put together for me. It's about 10" x 3" x 1/2". By the way, before I came to these simple and often small mods, I saw a chriropractor (was told it was my back and not the seat) and tried several commercial solutions that were too big. I also considered a Recaro seat. It is a big deal, but the solution can be pretty simple. Good luck. Mark ps. If cosmetics matter, covering any mod up with sheepskin covers is a nice touch and adds a bit of cushioning.
There was another thread about needing lumbar support and someone recommended this: Therm-a-Rest Lumbar Pillow at REI.com It's inflatable so you can adjust it to provide the support you need. My husband is considering it. We trade off driving to OH (10hrs) and the passenger side of the IV doesn't have lumbar support so he'd want it while I'm driving.
thanks everyone for your input. turns out I guess my back blew out this past thursday and since it never happened before and I was driving 3 hrs in the prius prior I of course blamed the prius while at the dealer when I bent over to pick something up and felt the sharp pain across the lower back. three days latter and I sort of feel better. can at least use my legs to get out of bed or a chair for the most part. time for lower back exercises it seems. for sure though toyota's (cheap?) method of seat design for the prius IV/V models does not help much either with it's crank up seat that pivots up from lower back towards the front instead of normal power seats that have full adjustments (8 way). many cranks of the seat has helped but of course then one is seating higher up in the car then they really want to.,,at least for me. nice car otherwise.
Ouch! I feel your pain. I did something like that a few years ago - I just bent over and wham. I didn't realize what I'd done until the next morning when I couldn't get up. I had happy drugs from the hospital and a wheelchair for a week. It was a sad sign of the times when the cops, the EMT's and the hospital staff all asked me if it was a case of domestic abuse. Here's hoping your back feels better soon.
