Hi all. I would like to get any ideas from those that upgrade hadlights to HID's on what brand did you use? Where did you get it and how much did you pay for it? Also ae you happy with the result? Pics would also help if you have some. TIA.
Re: Hid ki I got my kit from a friend. I just picked up a set for the low beams. I didn't seen a need for high beams since I'm not driving for extended periods of time with them on.
Re: Hid ki HID Kits - Xenon Kit - Car Lights I bought the 6000 with the Slimline ballast since this produces way too much light already and saves 20 watts per ballast. The color is slightly blue compaired to the old factor (2005) hid that I had but with the projector on the low beam you will not believe the dark penetration. I just spent 2400 miles on vacation of which about half was at night. I wouldn't have felt safe using the factory halogens driving in up state NY and PA. You can search my posts but you need to make sure the factory plug on the car harness makes contact with the new plug. All connections are used and this can be less than intuitive since the harness is rather universal. The cars bulb connector goes on the same side of the silicone grommet as the leads to the new bulb. The silicone grommet is just a place holder on the Prius and does nothing. I stuck the ballast up near the hood hindges. Check my Posts
Re: Hid ki I got mine from www.hidextra.com $60. They were very simple to install "all plug & play". Great customer service and fast shipping. They work great. I got the 6000K, make sure you get the Relay Harness with any HID kit or you will have issues.
I bought JLM's from Amazon.com. They were an easy install but I bought 6000K units (as a result of a failure to do adequate pre-sale research). They are not bright enough for me and in fact appear not as bright as the factory lamps. I'm exchanging them for 4300K lamps. I learned from hid.com that these are the brightest lamps you can get- that if you go higher, you get a different color, but fewer lumens. Installation, especially on the passenger side was challenging due to tight workspace. Look in the Prius owner's manual for instructions on how to change a headlamp for tips. I did not do the high beams.
I wasn't sure if I want to go with 5000K or 6000K. Chose 5000K just on the safer side. They look nice when it's in the dark but I can barely see the light during the day even 7, 8 in the evening (summer time). I can't imagine if it's in the foggy day
