Hi all. I have a 2007 Prius and it's time to get new tires. After reading through all the posts, I decided on the Michelin HydroEdge tires. I went down to the tire store this afternoon, and I was told that those tires are on back-order. (Not just at their stores, but from Michelin.) The guy recommended that I consider the Yokohama YK520 since I live in S. California and weather is not a big issue. Just wondering if anyone had these on their Prius and what their thoughts were. (I've only found reviews of this tire on other vehicles.) Are their any other tires that I should consider? Thanks!
I installed those for a friend's Accord many many years ago without doing enough research... not a great tire, comparable to the Goodyear Integrities. Dry grip is "ok", maybe even below ok if you like to drive spiritedly; I could easily make the car track "sideways" with a nice jolt at medium speeds, yep that crappy. Wet traction is even worse. Noise levels are fine, life was pretty good, but the thread actually looked pretty dried up after 2 years and 30,000 miles and the tire manufacture date was within a few months from the installation day. PSI was always kept in check. I would not recommend this tire, but sure is better than Barum, Arizona, Nexen, Visa, and other crap tires. I do like Yokohama tires though, what else is available? Tirerack.com can also give you tons of reviews.
I would consider Low Rolling Resistance tires if you are wanting the best gas mileage. Thanks for the quick reply guys! After reading more reviews this afternoon, I think I'm gonna give the GY Assurance Fuel Max a try.
By the way it is also sold at Walmart with a different tread pattern as the Goodyear Viva Authority Fuel Max Tires by Make, Model, Size, Oil Changes, Auto Care - Walmart.com
