Windshield wiper replacement on the 2010 Prius

Toyota has recently updated their application chart (with lengths in mm) for their wiper blades, though not for their wiper inserts:

I just purchased and installed Rain-X Lattitude:
26" Front Driver;
19" Passenger.
Note: Specifications for passenger call for 18";
19" Rain-X Lattitude work well on Prius 10 V passenger side.
Question:
Is there a Rain-X or Bosch that works on the rear window of a 2010 Prius?

I just bought a new rear blade for my 2008. It's similar to the 2010 in that the mounting post is offset so that the arm can be parallel to the blade. Only the Toyota blade will fit and it costs $15.

 

26-18 also works vey well.

 

Does anyone know where I an order the Toyota wiper inserts online (2010)? My local dealer is charging way to much for the refills.

I need new blades, and the dealer quoted $68 to change them. I guess I can buy them and do it myself. I think he said the rear wiper is the whole assembly and the front is the blades. 2004 model year.

 

Just get the rubber. YOu don't need the whole wiper arm.

I changed mine at 5000k for free so I don't know how much the rubbers are but I think they are about £15-20?

 

How much are they charging for the rubber refills?

 

Just picked them up at the parts department... $20 for all three inserts.
(I thought they were going to charge $20 each!)

I guess I'll just pick up a set when I get my oil done every 10K... ends up being about the right time... ~6 months. Unfortunately I run about 20K/year!

3 for $20 is very cheap. Not sure what the fuss is about. For that price one can change all 3 every 6 months.

Recently bought from Costco their "exclusive" Michelin curve blades 26" and 18". They were on sale for USD8 per piece. The same 26" is selling for almost 3 times more in other retail stores. When I compared the difference between the factory original and the Costco blades, I found that the Toyota original blade has a special design housing which deflects the wind. Would it make any difference in performance? I don't know but I'd suppose so.
A call to Toyota parts department turns out that the refill for 26" and 18" are also about USD8. If I had known about it, I would not have purchased the Costco blades.

 

Minor detail but the Driver and Passenger refill numbers above are backwards. I just bought a set of three from my Toyota dealer for $22.57. This is the rubber refill minus the metal strip that creates the proper curvature for the windshield. The parts guy told me that you remove the metal strip from the old rubber piece and place them in the grooves on the new rubber refills. Easy to swap out.

The parts guy also told me that Toyota is using these new style wiper blades on all of their newer model vehicles, not just the Prius.

I tried using standard Trico refills. They fit but the ends would not contact the windshield due to the curvature. I thought about using the curved metal strips with the Trico refills in the future but the connecting ends do not match. For $22 I will continue to use the Toyota refills until I need a new complete blade assembly.

 

If you're replacing wipers because they're juddering or skipping somehow, something to try first:

Get a spray can of automotive glass cleaner, the foaming stuff with cleaners and solvents. Thoroughly go over the windshield following instructions, typically to spray on and thoroughly wipe off with a cloth. Then moisten (the same) cloth with the cleaner, pinch the wiper blade at one end, and wipe along the full length a few times. Maybe repeat.

 

For anyone with the tech manuals for the 2010 Prius, there is a section that demonstrates how to remove each one of the wiper blades, remove the rubber pieces, remove the curved metal pieces, install the metal pieces in the new rubber refills and re-install the wiper blade. It even shows how to remove the wiper blade from the rear window and replace the wiper refill.

 

Does anyone have those tech manuals?
