I may have missed this as I would think this might be a common question. The 'fog lamps' on my 2008 are worthless as either fog lamps or aux driving lamps. I'd like to replace these bulbs with as high as intensity white light as I can so as to be able to use them to help spot deer during night driving. Not use them as fog lamps at all. I'm concerned with just putting a replacement bulb as I don't know what concerns I should have over additional even dangerous heat in that small lamp. Any guidance on what the highest output bulb that I could safely insert in my existing fog lamps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Grant
The highest wattage you can install safely is 55W. The style bulb you need is 9006 HB4. If you want white lights you need a color temperature of 5000K or greater. Personally, I suggest checking out the Nokya Arctic White fog bulbs. They are 55W 7000K Stage 1 bulbs that fit the Prius, and theyre only like $15 for the pair. Anything greater than 55W might melt your harness or overheat.
Use a 9005 bulb with minor modification on the bulb. Compare the 9006 and 9005 bulb intensity with the same wattage - color temperature and you will notice that 9005 bulb are brighter.
Question. I just got my hands on a H11 100W bulbs for my 2010 with driving lights. Will replacing the 55w with this 100w cause overheating?
100w on a halogen will run really really hot. There's a good chance it could melt your wires. You're pretty safe with anything under 70w. What you really need is an HID retrofit.
