I have been sending out e-mail feelers via various Toyota dealers' websites, and one of them called me today. I told them I had six months left on my present gas-hog lease and said I hoped the 2011's would be out by then. She immediately blurted out, "Oh, we have one on the lot, now." I asked if it was indeed a 2011, and she said yes. With extreme dubiousness, I said thank you and hung up. I figured she was either misinformed or lying just get me into the showroom (spider and the fly). Could there be even a speck of truth in what she said?
The vultures will use any tactic to get fresh meat into their showroom. You could have said 2012 model in? She would have said yes.
This has been discussed to death. Do a search, and you'll find a link to a Toyota document I posted a few times, that says initial production month September, first dealer deliveries Oct/Nov.
Probably another price increase, maybe some change in packages. I assume that Prius team knows but it seems that we never hear from them anymore.
What are the new packages? Can we get the 17" wheels, turning radii, & drive motors of the 5 in a 3? Have they changed the mid consel to free up that space? Bigger front roll bar for a sportier feel? How about a cold weather Prri with heated leather and use the solar power to run a engine block and climate heaters? Now thats the package I want.
That's quite an amazing dealer that has a 2011 Prius on the lot before Toyota has started producing them. Changes I would like to see on the 2011: 1.Persistent power mode - I only drive in power mode, so why should I have to select it every time I turn the car on? 2. Better color choice - I could stand only 2 colors in the 2010 - Red and Black. We need more choice. (I chose red) 3. Better FM radio - would it be cynical of me to suggest that the low quality of the FM radio is somehow related to the need to buy a subscription to the much better Sat radio? 4. Update the towns list in the nav. Long Island has hundreds of different towns that overlap. Sometimes the residents aren't sure what town they live in. I looked for an address in Dix Hills, and finally found out that the Nav considers it to be in Huntington Station. By the way, I know immediately if I forget to select power mode just by the sluggish feel of the acceleration.
I was also told yesterday that there might be a couple of 2011 Priuses on the lot--the Camrys came out a month ago and the Corollas and Yarises will be hear in a month or two. How much of THAT is true? Oh yeah, and no changes on the 2011 Priuses.
