I suppose you could mark it as destination and them when you get close, the NAV lady will tell you that you are close to home.

( what we all need is a way to download different voices and assign them to different things...

I can just hear 'Mr T" telling you:

    'Yo, slow down foooll!!!"

Ever been to England and been on the Underground? There is the nicest lady who says "Mind the gap" every time you step onto the train. I want her to say "Mind your speed" in my car. And every time I pass a cop, I want to mark it and have the car "ding" as I approach the area.

That is similar to the trams running around Atlanta's airport..

"the train will depart in ___minutes, please step away from the doors..."

Has anyone experimented with setting a location's "icon" to the "bell" type. I can't remember if that's what it's called, but the 3rd page of icons was special somehow. Haven't had a chance to play with this myself.

Unless the speedtrap involves the use of a timing system between 2 or more points, get a radar detector.

Besides, you get better mileage if you're going a little slower.

Sorry to hear about your ticket. :(

    About radar detectors.

I thought of a device and wondered if it exists.
I hate the look of a radar detector. The black curley cable and the silly box suctioned cupped to the windshield.

Do they make something you can mount in your grill/front of car and have the head unit mount somewhere on your dash? That way it doesn't LOOK like you have one if you get pulled over. Also you just have some small display that isn't as obtrusive as the whole detector.

Yes, check out Valentine One and Viper.

There are others available as well.

    Google 'remote mount radar detector'

I saw one installed in a new 944 back in 1985; the installation was clean but I can't vouch for its efficacy. Also, be advised that the mere possession and use of a detector is illegal in some states.

Now, from my Nanny side, the person who was not paying enough attention to where they are driving to note a 25MPH zone and an admitted known 'speed trap' in their OWN NEIGHBORHOOD, probably would not notice their detector alarm or NAV ding/donging...

You can get remote mounted detectors and mount the display in an unobstrutive location in the car. I'm sorry but I don't remember what brands offfer that type of option.

Keep in mind that police now have radar detector detectors available which will tell them you have a detector on board no matter how well you have it hidden in the car.

Why are people so rude? You don't even know me or why I was rushing or what emergency I may have been dealing with. I get so fed up with people who feel like they need to reprimand people on this board. Seriously, I am done posting questions up here becuase some smart guy always needs to reprimand the questioner for something stupid they have done. If I needed or wanted that, I would call my own father. That is not why I post and read at Prius Chat. I post here because I love my car and want to be a part of a community that appreciates that. And I get publically stoned by some reader! We all do stupid things that we regret doing and I am sure you are not innocent with sometimes exceeding the speed limit especially when it is 25 and you are going 32. Maybe we can all just cut each other some slack and empathize with each other's situation instead of reprimanding. Now my soapbox mode if off.

I am sorry that you took offense to some honest comments on what you posted yourself. I am not sorry that you were caught what, once out of how many times you endangered children and others by not paying enough attention to note police presence (Yeah, those big Crown Victorias are really stealthy, are'nt they)

In the future, if you do not wish to have your errors pointed out, just ask a question without maing your sin appear to be a blessing.

My biggest problem in my 25MPH posted neighborhood is TAILGATERS who feel that I am illegal for driving the posted RESIDENTIAL (READ KIDS AND DOGS RUN IN TO THE STREET HERE) because they must assume it is their given right to speed.

I pointed out some fixes and true, I could not resist what I though was a friendly jibe at whether warning devices would really help. Guilty. Trust me, I am kind. When I was 16, a cop threw a piece of wood at me in my car to get me to slow down from 30-32MPH in a 25 zone...

So, from one Michigander to another, have a nice life and please slow down to below the sound barrier if you ever get to Ramona, California.

Thanks for the "fatherly" advice. Saves me a phone call with my own father this month.

    No problem:)

Hey, stick around...it can only get better from here, right;-)

Where in Michigan are you? I was born and raised in Grand Rapids/Wyoming, and later Kalamazoo/Portage. What are gas prices there?

Just to lighten the mood here, several years ago I was waiting in court to be heard on a speeding ticket. Radar detectors are illegal in Virginia, and one of the earlier cases that morning was a guy who got caught using one by an officer with a radar detector detector. The defendant testified that he was not guilty because his radar detector was inoperable. The prosecutor asked him how he knew that, and the defendant answered, "Because it didn't go off when the officer drove by."

P.S. My ticket was dismissed. :)

Am I missing something? Who was rude? I see MSWheeler's original post was deleted, but I can surmise the topic of that post based on the remaining posts. Nothing seems uncalled for, even with the missing opening post.

Ya got me DanMan...I'm, frankly, suprised that someone didn't say "your fault, go the speed limit" a lot sooner.

I'm sorry you're frustrated with the comments MSWheeler, but frankly this is about as benign of a forum I've ever been on. It's public, it's open and if you choose to participate you open yourself up for whatever may come (within reason), and a violation of the law is sure to draw some attention.

The original post asked the question, is there a way to add an icon or something onto my nav system that would ding as I passed it. This question came up as I sat getting a ticket in my own neighborhood, knowing the speed limit, and knowing that there would likely be a cop sitting on the corner. I was stupid, I admitted it and I felt like I got reprimanded by the forum here for speeding. I wasn't asking for someone to say, "your fault, go slower." I was asking a NAV question and I am VERY sorry that I put in anything about my personal life. The cops took care of punishing me, and I deserved it, the question was not about how to get out of a speeding ticket. The question was, Crap, I was not paying attention and should have been. Is there something my NAV can do to help remind me when I turn that corner I better be going exactly 25?

But this is a symptom that happens in other forums. I just feel comments like "obviously you can't read your manual" or other comments indicating that the questioner is an idiot are uncalled for. This is a forum to help and to commune. This is often some people's first experience with the Prius and they often have dumb questions or repeated questions. I feel like we should help each other and leave the reprimanding to real fathers and the cops.

You can add an auditory icon for that exact GPS position. Mark that position, add it to your memory point, and give it an audio attribute. Of course for it to ding, NAV has to be active. If you haven't yet pressed "I Agree" for your current trip, you have NO neat NAV functions, including the calendar reminders, or the maintenance reminders.
