I just bought 2010 Prius 2 weeks ago and have filled the tank once. The "Next Fill" odometer is reading around 830 kms. Just curious what others are getting so I know what to expect after "break in " period is over.

Press "Display" until you see the little car by the fuel pump (bottom of display) . The mileage shown represents the miles you have until you are empty.

When I first got the car, it showed about 600 miles on the very first tank. (Yeah -- ok.)

Now, after a fill, I'm showing around 440-460.

I think it looks at the amount of fuel in the tank and the mileage (consumption) you have been getting. But I don't know how far back it looks. It, of course, recalculates continuously as we drive using updated figures. I think the reason the number is high when our cars are new is because it has no consumption data and uses some (high) pre-programmed number for consumption until it gets real data.

I can't provide a reference for that, it's just WAG based on watching mine. If I have been averaging 50 MPG mine will usually read around 500 miles, which makes sense because it hits 0 miles to go when I have about 2 gallons left in the tank, about the same time the last pip starts to blink.

i have to agree with you mine is down also from 830km .to 650km

i think it has to do with the type of driving you do trafic speed a/c .
it samples past perfomances and it adhusts to a more real calculation suited to your town and needs. i dont think it has anything to do with the car not being able to come close to the manufacturesrs numbers!

i actualy average 5.5-5.0 km/lt yesterday there was a major strike in athens and acompanied by demonstrations that created major gridlocks alover and i got up to 5.9 at some point but by the end of a 200km day its average whent to 5.6/100km.
when i refiled the car after that shift The "Next Fill" odometer reading was way down ..i cant remember of the top of my head but it didnt agree with my thoughts for the car so whell.hehehe. i think if the city gets back to normal after a few fill ups with normal trafic that next fill mark will raise its self.

ps. i run the a/c most of my days to control the smog that i breathe.i dont get cheap with my health!

Lifetime average (since 07/08/09) is 47.39 mpg (odometer/gallons used).

I just got my car a few days ago. When I got it, I do not recall a little car by the fuel pump. I just recall seeing that it gave an amunt of miles to go before refueling. Well I got gas today and this little car now appears by the fuel pump. and then I believe there is a number. But this does not appear on all the displays. Is that normal?

    Thanks, Annieeee

Not sure what you're saying, but since you just got the car...each time you press "trip" you get another display. There are two trip counters, then the distance to empty, then the odometer, and one more that's blank. Just keep hitting "trip" until you see the car and the fuel pump.

Mine shows about 650km at each fill up. I think the computer calculates the "Distance to Empty" by using the last lowest consumption to get the estimation. For example, if you drove a very short distance prior to the fill up and the trip used battery power more than ICE, then the "Distance to Empty" may show a higer number before your next fill up. I've been driving mine over 6 months and never seen it showing as high as yours. My average is between 600km to 620km before I fill it up again.

The picture I posted was right after a fill that took me 700+km. So pretty accurate, no trickery here. I just have a very optimal travel route for going to and from work everyday. Part of the reason a Hybrid made sense to me.

I usually get 700km. I never really check because it is not that "reliable", meaning that when it gets to 0km, you have in fact 7-10 liters of fuel which is a *lot*, you can drive at least another 150-200km before you go dry (if you average 5L/100km).
But I need to check again more in detail - I need to write down once I fuel the new value and see how many kms I am actually driving before I reach the last blinking bar. INcluding the reserve, then I can calculate on which fuel consumption is the autonomy calculated.
    As per Owner's Manual:
"Displays the estimated maximum distance that can be driven with the quantity of fuel remaining.
    • This distance is computed based on your average fuel consumption. As a result, the actual distance that can be driven may differ from that displayed.
    • When only a small amount of fuel is added to the tank, the display may not be updated."

    Mine usually says 525.

I noticed the last time my tank was low, it said I had 20 miles worth of gas left in the tank but when I filled up, it filled 8.7 gallons, meaning there was at least 3 gallons of gas in the tank yet showing I could only drive 20 more miles. Anyone experience something like this? Doesn't make sense to me.
