I've got a black on misty gray Prius and am looking to upgrade the wheels & tires within ~$500 budget

What do you guys think of this one?
Is it too much black on black or will it look sweet?
This is where the photoshop skills really pay off.

    Size: 215/45 R17 or 225/45 R17
    Thanks in advance for opinions.....

I've seen some black cars pull it off with black wheels, but they're typically much larger rims. The two-tone 17" wheels you're showing are going to look small relative to the Prius body.

Not my taste, but you should buy whyat you like. If you go to the tire rack website you can see how various wheels look on the car.

Well I guess Ill be the one to agree with you. I think the right black rims on the black prius look very nice and have seen some already. I dont like those ones though. The ones that look nice to me are very similar to the alloys that come underneath the plastic covers.

Like Smirv, I like the black rim look on a black car. But to break the monochromatic look, the rims would have to be a matte black for me. I tend to think the black color looks better on larger rims with multiple thin spokes (or a thin five spoke) and not so much with chunky spokes.
Plus, I like a rim with some "depth" to the spokes. Nothing towards the rims you picked, but that flat flush look just doesn't look proper on a 17" rim.

I don't like the "heavy" bulky look of the rims. I think they look kinda ghetto. But you know, just an opinion.

    I dislike everything:

Wheel: Not my style and probably heavy, likely MPG reduction of 5-8% IMO.

Tire: Nexen N5000. Junk. Don't learn the hardway like I did. Quality tires are your best friend. Also not LRR (Low rolling resistance...which I don't even know exist in 17" anyway).

Tire size should be 215/45/17 though.

I didn't notice the tire part....yeah, don't get crap tires. Even if you get hit on MPG, at least be able to trade it for increased grip and handling prowess. I think a few people found the General Exclaim UHP to be pretty reasonable (and fairly cheap), but it's jsut an observation and not a recommendation.

This article (on performance summer tires) may be of some help. Long story short - don't buy cheap tires. They may look the same, but their performance is abysmal.

The General Exclaim is a great budget tire, though relatively soft side wall, but better than Nexen and all those cheapo unknown brand manufacturers. I think General is Continential non-premium line. Tons of 3 series drivers use them.

I agree that Tires make a huge difference. I have 205/50R17 Continental extremecontact DWS, and I like them. Its a long wearing all season that really performs well in the rain. The sidewall is a little flexible, but that was easily fixed by pumping them up to 42psi. If budget is low, I would stick to the 15s instead of going cheap on the tires. Rims are a personal choice though, click through a few selections on tire rack with your car to get a good feel.

    K,

    Thanks for the feedback.

These rims are out and I'll look for better quality tires going forward

I don't like em. I think the spokes are ugly, and the bolts look cheap. And I don't like all the holes drilled to fit 4 or 5 lug configs.

    But damn they're sweet!
