The website now lists the Prius as being eligibile: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm And the form now has a Hybrid checkbox: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg1000.htm W00t! --Paul
Coolest. According to local DMV we all have to mail it because it is so new, to Sacramento. They said 4-6 weeks (per the local DMV).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Pest\";p=\"115422)</div> Thanks for the heads-up. I looked at that page yesterday and they weren't accepting hybrids. DGStan
I'm having troubles downloading that reg1000.pdf form. Maybe we Prii-ites are bringing the DMV to its veritable knees?
Got it. Thanks. They say to mail it in. I'm wondering if there is anywhere that I can get a sticker in person. Maybe a DMV office? I'm on hold with the Auto Club right now to see if i can do it there.
I just learned that the Auto Club can't do it, so I'm gonna mail mine in too. In other words, "the race is on to be the first on your block."

So what's with the required "Bay Area Fast Trak" proof for bay area drivers? I live nowhere near a bridge, nor do I use any of the bridges, and they want me to spend $40 so I can get a useless transponder in my car so I can get in the car pool lanes on 101 near my house and in the south bay? This seems quite odd, and quite out of the blue. Did anyone else see that in the DMV form? Ideas? EF
Has anyone in Los Angeles called their local DMV to see if they have the stickers? I read somewhere that they would be available in Sacramento and Los Angeles. I'll give them a call in the morning...
I can only guess that this was part of the original Cali bill, but didn't get attention until now. Or perhaps use of the carpool lanes (with or without a hybrid) always required this Fast Trak gizmo?
eric777, Yes, I am wondering about that also. The good thing is that the $40 is a deposit to your account. There is no monthly fee to it. If you never use it, $40 would always be there for you. Maybe you could close the account once you get the sticker... Just maybe. For those registered your Prii in Bay Area counties, you MUST have a FasTrak account in order to apply for it.
I call at 4:40 to my local DMV. They did not have a clue at this time. They did not know it had passed. Here is hoping they will know more in the future. Cathy Orange County Prius Club OCprius.com
The person at the 1-800 number for SoCal DMV told me that Sacramento took away all the Clean Air Vehicle stickers from the local DMV offices earlier in the year, so the only place issuing is Sacramento. This means you have to mail in your application form. Truth? I'm in Irvine and called at 4:30pm, so read it as you will. Tried to make it to the Santa Ana office, but with the traffic got there at 5:05pm. ukeright:
Since I already have a Fastrak transponder, the interesting question is the form of proof they are asking for. The DMV page wants an original reciept from the Bay Area Toll Authority to be supplied. Until a few months ago, it was actually CALTRANS that was issuing the transponders. Furthermore, my receipt would date from 2000 and be for a different car (conceivably a different licence plate if I hadn't transferred by personalized plate to the Prius). In addition, CALTRANS issued statements about every 6 months (about 2 months after closing) and only showed the license plate. However, BATA now has a pretty good web interface. A few minutes ago, I was able to print a current statement, and an account summary. The account summary includes the account number, my identification information, and my car's information, including plate and make, model, and year. I think that this is what the DMV should be asking for. I called the DMV information line on Thursday morning. The agent told me that they were still unsure as to what would qualify as proof of FASTRAK registration. She said that she was expecting a memo shortly and that I should check back later today or tomorrow before sending anything in.
oh this info already exists! anyway, i'm a recent prius owner (2 weeks, 2 days, and already 950 miles ago)... so i don't have license plates. i do have fastrak (from another family car) but it obviously does not have the new prius listed (since i need to add a vehicle using licence plates). what would you all suggest? mail in the application with the license plate field blank & a fastrak receipt (from may 25, 2001) that doesn't have any vehicle information on it? (plus the 8 dollar processing fee, of course)... or wait until i get my plates (how long does it really take? 45+ business days? ha!)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(aforkosh\";p=\"115555)</div> Thanks for the information, Alan. I have a friend in a similar situation, so I advised him to add his Prius to his FastTrak account and then send in a printout of the webpage showing the license number. I really don't know if the DMV will accept it as proof, but I'm thinking that this is pretty much the best he can do. I'd be interested to hear what you learn from the DMV agent. Thanks! Louie
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(inventor00\";p=\"115440)</div> Mailing it to where? There is no address on the form. If mailing it to DMV Sacramento, how do you complete step two in the process of inspection? DMV page with instructions
Although the DMV instructions web page says"...you must include an original receipt from the Bay Area Toll Authority as evidence of a "FasTrak" toll account" for the affected counties. The form itself does not have the same wording. All the form says is "Evidence of an Automatic Vehicle Identification System Fas Trak account MUST BE submitted with this application...." for the affected counties. So the real question is whether or not the DMV will accept a printout from the online account as "Evidence".
