2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

I wonder how many of those drivers used the overly optimistic indicated number. I'm amazed that I place so low. I must have a problem or there is some "exaggeration" going on.

We speak the same language but all too often the numbers don't inspire the imagination . . . a few of us are cursed with seeing numbers as mental pictures:

I say it is a curse because in one respect it makes us into a 'Casandra.' We see the numbers and in our mind, we see a picture . . . and sometimes ("Bell the Hybrid") it is ugly.

Bob, you have posted many thoughtful remarks, beautiful graphs, inciteful tables, and I study your posts and you tell a story that does inspire. This particular graph is beautiful to look at and tells a great story of progress in FE. So keep posting my friend. Casandra saw the future but no one would listen. Tony, don't stress dude, you are doing great. At 42 to 44 mpg, compared to all drivers and all autos world-wide, you are in the 90th to 95th%tile (guess-tamation). See the video in the forum on maximizing fuel efficiency (FE). It is very helpful.

 

A bit unfair to call it 'less Smart' when you ignore one if its primary niches -- in places where real estate is very scarce or expensive, a Smart consumes 45% less parking space than a Prius.

And in its home market (not the U.S.), a Smart diesel matches a Prius on CO2 emissions and beats it on fuel economy.

As for safety, Prius's NHTSA crash test ratings are not all that much better than Smart.

While Smart fits a smaller target market than does the Prius in the U.S., I see no reason to portray it as 'misnamed'.

 

You're right, I am sure there is a niche. Smart is novel looking in the US and I see many with business advertising on their sides, as well the small foot-print gets it into small places. It has decent fuel mileage in the high range with some others such as Fit, Yaris, Matrix, VW Beetle, Mini, Civic, Cobalt, etc.. And, I suppose, if I were analyzing the Smart with diesel at a higher MPG, I would think it more smart. But the regular gas version at 37mpg average with no space for anything but one passenger, it seems not so smart, given the competition in a similar mpg range--just one opinion, mostly from a practicality standpoint. I know others have a different view and I respect that. I'll have to drive one and see if it changes my mind.

 

I am just on my second tank of gas. So far the indicated mpg is increasing as I learn
more how to drive this hybrid after years of a standard gasoline car. This tank is averaging 49.7 mpg and overall since my purchase, I am averaging 48.1. The 48.1 average has a 200 mile trip included that the current tank of gas doesn't. It is for just around town driving, trips of 7-10 miles each.

I am going to be making a long trip over the weekend that will probably be about 850 miles so that should give me a good indication of mpg on the highway with mixed miles of in heavy traffic, ie, DFW area, and highway miles.

 

11th tank. 50.9MPG (calculated) 50.9MPG (indicated) The computer matches for the first time? My first tank that exceeds the EPA rating.

68-90F warm-Hot. Only one rainy day. used AC above 75F. AC set to 79F. Mix of normal and ECO modes. 360+ miles of interstate/highway driving consisting of four 90+ mile trips. The long trips showed 52-53MPG indicated. The long trips were the main reason for the improved mileage.

Last tank my computed and calculated were very close ... was also my best miles so far.

 

A first for me today @ 6000km, taking my wife to her favorite gardening center, 240km round trip...3.0L\100km: 78.4 mpg (US): 94.2 mpg (Can).

 

WOW ... I'm impressed! ... super mileage .. best I've done is 3.4 on a short 30km trip (also to a gardening centre, wife favourite ..LOL).

On your trip ..road flat/hilly?? what speed?

I don't even bother telling my neighbors when they ask, because they won't believe it...I just tell them I don't pay much attention to mileage.

Trip - lot's of tame hills, all secondary paved roads 50-80 kph for the most part, little traffic so stayed at or just under speed limit most of the time to enjoy the lush greenery, lots of pulse/glide, air temp about 18 C., little or no wind, tire pressures 38/36, regular gas-Esso.

I've traveled the same route in my Miata at significantly higher speeds and managed 51 mpg.

 

Thanks for the info ... that is amazing mileage, we have just over 5k on ours now and enjoy every minute of it.

9K 50.7 mpg

 

2010 Prius III - Blue Ribbon. Odeometer=1700 miles (1100 miles = Ohio-PA Turnpike superhighway) , fuel efficiency range = 61.9 mpg to 55 mpg, average=58 mpg. best city(DC/MD, avg 17 mph) =60mpg, best superhighway 61 mpg (avg 53 mph).

 

I have did two tanks of gas. The first was 51 mpg and the second was 55 mpg. Drove city and highway with AC and Cruse on. Top speed was 67.

So far so good. Happy camper

 

I reset my B mileage after each refill.
Last winter I did 5,8 to 5,9 l/100 consistently, on winter tyres. (39,9-40,6mpg)
First month on summer tyres I dropped back to 4,9~5,1. (46,1-48)
Last three refills I manage 4,6 (51,1) average.:whoo:
Not bad when home to work traffic includes a freeway with 100/120 kph speeds.
Best mileage I managed to capture was 3,8 l/100 over 22 km. (61,9) Only 50 and 60kph roads, lots of anticipating driving.
Then again, in heavy traffic I can also manage to consume zilch during 6 or 7 minutes...

 

Tank #1: 389.0 miles - 65.7 mpg displayed (25 hwy/75 city)
Tank #2: 497.6 miles - 58.0 mpg displayed (90 hwy/10 city)

 

Working on my third tank of gas now. City/Hwy driving averaging on this third tank 53 with 125 miles so far. previous tanks avg out to 48 mpg, gal versus miles.

876 miles on car sure mileage will get better as car and driver get use to each other.

 

highway: on average between 55 and 60 mpg driving 65-70mph using cruise and AC, the road a combination of flat and hills
city: on average 39 and 42 driving no faster than 50 mph, lots of slow driving and stops, using AC, the roads a combination of flat and hills

Prior to buying the Prius I believed that city driving would be more economical than highway, but this obviously is not the case. City mileage is slowly becoming worse even in similar circumstances: any suggestions? Could they have done something at the 5000 mile service or recall work that causes this? The timing would be right.
