Looks like Bush signed the Highway bill today. So now it's just a wait and see with the state to see how they interpret the bill. I wonder how long it will take before we can get our little stickers to drive in the HOV lanes solo? Please post any updates! I went to the DMV yesterday (right by my work in Santa Monica) and asked them about the stickers and they said they couldn't give out any info until they get word from their main office...
Well, I just talked to a guy over at the DMV office... They had a meeting about the hybrid/HOV lanes this morning. Evidently, their lawyers are trying to figure this out right now and any info will be posted on arb.ca.gov Also, in addition to the stickers that go on the cars they are planning on having a card that is to remain with the car's registration. Also he said, they are planning to send letters to all the eligable owners in the state once they know what's up. The website will probably have the information before the dmv employee's.
My coworker has a small device on his car that triggers the HOV 'reader'. In his case (2005 Avalon), Caltrans uses that device to deduct a toll for using the HOV lane without passengers. Soooo, it is entirely in reason to use something like this on our Prii to allow free access.
The arb.ca site is down right now...maybe they are updating it! Or maybe all us Prius drivers crashed it!
We are all waiting anxiously. Our Orange County Prius group is meeting on Sat and boy would they all LOVE it! OCPrius.com
