200,000 Mile Club

I reached 200.000 miles two months ago. beyond routine maintenance I have had to replace the front air dam due to me making a significant impression on a deer at 45 MPH. I still have the original front and rear brakes. My only problem is that my AC system will not blow cold air.

 

265000 miles and counting. p0420 code and p0446 code recurring.

 

Could just as easily be the upstream or downstream sensors and not the cat. converter at all.

 

I have decided to drive my '02 for a good long while. Here's my old car status:

110,000 miles

Misc tires and oil changes.

50,000 miles (or so): computer interface malfunction, causing false error codes. Replaced under warrentee.

75,000 miles: Mass air flow sensor went out. I can't remember the cost, around $200 I think.

110,000: 12V battery. GF left the dome light on, and had to jump the car. We took it to a battery warehouse where they told me that it was "marginal". I figured that 8 years was enough for a 12V and got to learn about the grossly overpriced 12V battery.


I am currently paying myself a car payment so that I will have a downpayment for my next car. The plan is to drive this one for a good, long while, and 200K would be awesome. Any advice on how to keep her on the road at this advanced age are welcome. Should I have the coolant changed? Transmission fluid? Brake fluid? I'm a believer in preventative maintenance.

I also worry about the traction battery. How will I know when it is starting to go? I am thinking about driving down to ReInVolt when the day comes, as they are far, FAR less expensive than getting a new Toyota battery and I like the idea of rebuilding a battery. It looks like they can install one for around 1700 or so, versus the 4500 that my dealership quoted me, not counting the 15 HOURS OF LABOR. The board seems happy with ReInVolt, and Bwilson4erb has a picture of his. How have you guys found them? I figure the high milage club will have more experience with new batteries.

 

217,000 miles and going on my 2004. Has just required routine maintenance and changed the belt as a precaution. Battery is still 'fat dumb and happy'. Issue with O2 sensor. Been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Brother has a Toyota truck that he has had for well over 15 years - same story; keeps running like a song.

Hi there, I would like top know if you've had to change your 12v battery or your hybrid battery. Could you also answer the questions listed at the top of the forum. I am about to hit 100,000 miles on my 2005 Prius and I want to know what to look forward to.

I'd replace the 12 volt battery soon. It is almost 5 years old now. I replace mine every 3-4 years since I don't want to be stranded. (Honda factory 12 volt battery in my Insight seems to need replacing every 3-4 years.)

You can have a mechanic do a "load test" to see how well the battery handles it.

 

I was ready to turn 300,00 miles today and the odometer stopped at 299,999. Are they not supposed to go 300k ?

 

Has anyone heard of this happening before? Odometer just quit working at 299,999

SO.....Have you had to replace the HV pack?

 

No Richard, I havent replaced my HV pack. Other than the repairs i've done in my previous posts,I haven't had to replace anything,the 8 sets of tires dont count... Dealer said it was just a coincidence my odometer stopped there. I dont buy it cause both trip odo's work still. Going to keep track of total mileage through trip odometer now I guess. i'm at 302,000 as of today.

 

This is very strange. It makes sense to use the trip odometer as a means to keep track of the accumulated miles.
