as of yesterday i've had traffic info on my nav. wonder if they are running another preview like when i first bought the car (june 09).
Nice perk for those of you who bought that package. Does the included radio have a TMC receiver? If so, you might be getting information from this service: Total Traffic Network
Got an Email from XM Radio today saying it is a free trial until June 7 for all radios able to receive it. They even had the Radio ID number listed.
Great, then we can expect another barrage of incessant mail from them begging us to subscribe I much prefer Sigalert, for which an excellent webclip is available for the iPhone and I'm able to see traffic information ahead of me in my daily routes and decide on the fastest one.
Ya, but you need to live in a population center with well, population. Here in podunk I have a travel tab in the FM mode only which scans zero info--Sat radio no tab. I still have 30 days left of my 90 freebies. Can't complain since I'm getting what I paid for.
I also have the free satellite radio and am "getting what I paid for". The service is intermittent and trees will block the signal. I can't imagine anyone paying for such a poor signal. I will stick to playing my CDs.
No free traffic for me today. Maybe there wasn't enough on 1&9 to report but you'd think Tonnelle Ave would be covered--and it was slow with the construction. The NAV Lady was only slightly retarded on this trip which was a pleasant surprise. I received very few traffic notifications during the trial period so I can't see paying for it or the radio. I'm now listening to CDs.
Don't worry, I found it useless during my free trial period also. It seemed like the traffic info was a couple hours behind. Telling me everything is fine while I'm sitting in traffic and telling me that traffic is slow once I'm free of the congestion is worse than not having it at all. Others may have better experiences with it.
We were stupid and subscribe to NAV Traffic for the first year. I am getting rid of it. There was horrible traffic by the Holland Tunnel tonight and traffic was not showing up on the map. Maybe there was an outage in the area?
New Jersey roads are incident enabled only with no traffic flow data. I asked technical support about it and their response was that they're updating regions all the time. I've been told that NJ doesn't provide the necessary data to NAVTEQ to enable traffic flows. Oddly, Google Maps and their Navigation software seems to be able to extrapolate the data quickly and, usally, very accurately Don't bother with the traffic service in NJ. It's non-existant from XM.
I used to have it somewhat. And now it seems gone. My DH is getting a Droid Incredible and I bet we could get better traffic on google maps with it.
LOL OMG LOL Sorry, we have a traffic prgram on our hand held GPS, base so no built-in nav. Real helpful when you live in a tiny town 40 miles from Louisville, which has like NO traffic. Wish I had Nav thou I always get lost and then my Garmin gets me even more lost...
+1 in DC & Northern Virginia. During the trial, I got used to expecting the opposite of what it was telling me -- kind of made me feel like I was riding along with my wife during the commute .
+2. When I had XM two years ago, even the repeat traffic information for Chicago was well outdated. After about the 10th time being stuck in traffic after it said it was clear, I canceled the use of their services. Now I just use Google maps on my Blackberry - pretty damn accurate!:clap2:
the only value it adds for me is the additional pretty green/red/yellow colors on my map. my commute route is pretty fixed and surprise! there is traffic during morning and afternoon commutes.
