2010 Prius Recall Software Update Experiences

    I just got my car back from being serviced where they also did the software update. Toyota did have my car for several days servicing a fuel line that got bent while running over a big rock that was in the middle of the road (long story). Anyway, when I got my car back I first noticed that all my satellite radio stations were changed. My Navigation display was changed, and my tire inflation sensor keeps coming on. However, my phone settings, and bluetooth settings were still intact, and voice command settings were unchanged. Was somebody using my radio and navigation or is this normal after the upgrade? I'm not sure what to think about the tire inflation sensor. All the tires seem to be inflated properly.

    No idea what caused this for you but when they did the update on mine nothing changed.

    I didn't have any issues with stations being lost or reprogrammed after the brake update, so I don't think it's directly related. On the tire issue, if you're sure you have the correct pressure now, you can reset the pressure sensor. That will calibrate your sensor to the correct tire pressure and the light should go out. The instructions are in the manual. The button is really hard to find, though. Check out the thread below for tips on finding the button and also some info on how the tire pressure system works:

    Also the time on my clock was wrong, and not just 1 hour from the time change either. Makes you wonder what, or who is operating your car when it's in the shop for a couple weeks. However, with the stations, ALL the station presets were changed. I'm wondering if was reset to the default stations, and what would be the Default stations on the Satellite?

    So far no reocurrence of the tire pressure (fingers crossed). My wife however found the "Hill Assist" and the display of the "slip indicator" playing with the brakes. Thanks to the Prius Chat forums in here I was able to get clarification on what that was all about and set my wife's mind at ease that this is normal function. I learn something new all the time.

    I got mine flashed this weekend. The only thing I noticed afterwards is that the steering seems to be just a bit out of the center position and now I wonder if they tested my car on a too bad of a road and messed up the alignment... the brakes feel better now.

    2010 prius owner here. Got the abs fix in february 2010. Problem still persists. I can replicate the error almost 100% of the time on my ride home from work. The problem also happens at random potholes and curbs. Took the car to Toyota today. They basically said I am "SOL" because if the firmware update did not correct the problem then they do not know what will. They could not guarantee my safety if the sudden/abrupt acceleration happened while driving in the snow/ice/wet road conditions. Anyone have any suggestions? Please advise

    I initially thought the problem was pretty much fixed, but there is one spot of rough road I drive over occasionally that still makes the car scoot if I'm applying the brake as I drive over it. I still think it's worth getting the update, since it solved about 80% of the problem for me. The only advice I have, and it's not the best, is that if you know where the bad spots are, try to slow down before you hit them so you will not need to apply the brakes while you are over the bad patch of road. That won't work on roads you don't know well, though!

    Anyone else notice that their brakes (esp the front) are now wearing much quicker?

    I hardly ever had black on the alloy wheels from the brake dust before the update and now they can be very black after just a weeks use.

    oooooohhhhhhhhhhh boy now i am starting to worry that i made another bed decision by orderind the 2010 model as a taxi ! if i end up loosing days from work for brake programing it defeats the purpose of having it for gas economy

    Toyota began putting the fix in the assembly line in January and this is late April. It takes less than six weeks to get the Prius from Japan to anywhere in the world. Furthermore, every Prius dealership was required to update the software in their Prius inventory. It is easy enough to call the dealer and insist the brake fix, SCC-A0B, be in the vehicle when delivered.

    Polling at PriusChat shows the vast majority of 2010 Prius owners noticed the braking is improved. In fact, one UK cab owner reports seeing more brake pad dust on the wheels after the patch indicating the mechanical brakes are doing more work.

    You're about to discover the significant fuel savings of the 2010 Prius. Keep accurate records (as if a cab driver needs to be told this!) and see what happens to your profit margin.

    I hope to put your mind at rest. My car suffered from the brake 'issue' and I witnessed it a couple of times. Luckily I didn't have a customer in on both occasions. Both times it occurred when hitting something wet (pile of wet leaves on the road first time and a wet drain cover the second) and I think there was a delay in the switchover between regen braking and 'normal' braking.

    To cut a long story short, the brake problem as far as my experience is concerned has been sorted after the recall, but I do get the impression that the normal friction brakes are now used more often than before. This is excellent from a safety point of view but not so good for brake pad wear. I had been informed that brake pads could last 60k miles (100k km) in city use because the car uses regen braking more than friction braking.

    Obviously I'd rather have a safe car!

    Finding that the friction brakes are engaged more almost makes me want to not have the software update done. Since I've been made aware of the issue, what's causing it and how to avoid it, it's not been high on my list. I was going to have it done with my next service, but now I'm not sure...

    12 pages of on this subject :eek: So if someone else made this comment/question, my apologies.

    I have experienced the feeling of brief acceleration that this supposed to fix (and thanks to the forum, I did not freak out) When I was in for my usual service, I had the dealer perform the update - but I still am getting that jumping ahead feeling on irregular pavement. Should I go shake my fist at the dealer or should I save my friction brakes and forget we had this conversation?

    i had mine done a few months ago.

    it seems better but, it also seems to depend on tire pressure.

    i was driving for 2 months 2psi under-inflated. just pumped them to 3psi over normal and it seems to "skip" more.

    if somebody else would like to play with their tire pressures to see if it actually gets better when the pressure goes down and report here I'm sure it would be appreciated by all.
