What is the New Jersey "Green Prix"?
An UNOFFICIAL Time-Speed-Distance Road Rally for Hybrid and Alternate Fuel Vehicles, held in Northern New Jersey. The Official SCCA Green Grand Prix in Watkins Glen is on May 8th 2010.

How does it work? We depart at 10:00 AM, reset MPGs computers (on fueled cars), and drive a predetermined route, arriving in time for lunch at Highlands Greenfest.

Where is the route? Our scenic route circles upper and lower greenwood lakes in Northern New Jersey and part of New York State, is quite hilly and it will challenge your green-driving skills.

Who can participate? Traditional gass-powered, hybrid electric, alternative fuel, and electric vehicles are all encoraged to participate. Adjustments will be made for Alternative fuel and electric vehicles to determine the average Miles Per Dollar (MPD).

How can I get involved? If you want to get involved locally, meet with the organizers and other eco-minded folks and friends at Green Drinks West Milford

I've seen nothing more about this event, and attempts to reach
any of the contact addresses have returned silence. Is it still on?

The google-maps links *totally* don't work for me. Can you just
upload a PDF or image file to the site or something? I hope you
have printed copies on-site. Google-maps has been changing their
interface and their presentation *a lot* recently, and you *cannot*
rely on a google-maps URL displaying properly in all browser
environments. Grab a screenshot of whatever you see or something.

Here's my plan: head to NJ daytime Friday, toward Grover's Mill.
Here's why. Then back up toward the northern border, possibly
overnight at High Point [since Wawayanda doesn't actually have
anything other than huge group campsites] or some convenient
wayside point closer. Heck, maybe even the diner parking lot,
which if it's a typical 24-hr NJ diner would be exactly the
right answer for a big, greasy breakfast. [ooh, that's more
weight in the car!] Do the FE run in the morning, go into "preach
to the masses" mode at the festival, and head back that evening.
    .
    Am I missing anything?

PDFs attached as requested - these are what the printed copies were made from.

Your plan sounds like a lot of driving - High Point and Grover's Mill are both very far from here, but I guess it's all relevant!

I look forward to meeting you.

The Oasis diner in the staring point strip-mall is NOT a 24/7 diner.

Our OTHER diner is open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday only:
    West Milford Diner
    2020 Greenwood Lake Turnpike
    Hewitt, NJ 07421-3014
    (973) 728-1010

Hewitt is a sub-division of West Milford, and this diner is not far off our route - good food at good prices.

We are a typical back-woods mountain town, so most of the few businesses we have here close at night.

Also - please note that the parking lot we start from is very close to our small and nosy police department, so I cannot recommend that you stay there overnight.

Glad to see the word is out about the event.
    Good luck!
I look forward to hearing the results.

I won't steal Rand's thunder on results, but the funniest quote
for me came on the way home: " ... you're a brave man, buying
egg salad at a *gas station*."

I'd love to hear the results and view any pictures of this event. How did it go Hobbit?

It was entertaining. I overnighted for free in the High Point
campground [yes, a bit far away] because nobody was in the office
by the time I got there, and pre-scoped part of the route on
the way to meet up with folks in the strip-mall parking lot.
[which is *huge* relative to the stores it serves.] We all took
off in a big glom, rather than being clocked out, and as far
as I know nobody collected results at the endpoint. I pulled
71 and change MPG for the 40-mile run; I was showing over 80
at the turn down by the Wanaque Reservoir but then there was a
huge climb up to the endpoint at the enviro-fest. Similar-ish
terrain and road types as the Adirondacks run, but probably
not quite as much elevation change. Still, at least one good
regen-buster downhill scream. Either I took one very minor
wrong turn through Greenwood Lake or everyone else did, but
it didn't matter as the roads in question rejoined about a
half-mile later [17A onto Teneyke Rd, for those who were there].
    .
The fest was nice; pleasant park, nice lake, gorgeous day. Of
course I spent most of the day hanging in the parking lot where
we were all lined up, fielding visitors and handing out flyers
and getting minorly sunburned on the back of my arms where I
didn't quite reach around with the goop. Chatted diesels with
some pretty clueful WVO conversion guys. Unfortunately the
fellow with the Tesla had to leave on the early side, but I
think I got a figure out of him of 220 Wh/mile or thereabouts
for his own run that morning.
    .
As for anyone else's results I have no clue, but I think I
bested at least one of the Insights that participated, heh...

Thanks for the update and reply Hobbit. I guess the event was more about like minded people getting together for an interesting day out, more than an actual competition. Just as well, as a 40 mile run is a bit too short for a meaningful economy run contest.

All in all it sounded like fun. Did you take any pics while there?
