How many people have problems with rodents or debris in the Cabin Air Filter System, I have had to replace mine 2x in last month?:welcome:
I haven't had the problem, but there are a handful of reports in PriusChat threads. A good search should turn them up, along with some remedies.
To save a little reading ... one quick fix is to leave the system in "recirc" mode every time you shut down. Blocks the intake. I think that still works on third-gens... but check me on that.. . _H*
I've had it happen twice. What really bothers me is where in the car all the nest-building scraps are from -- but nothing has stopped working -- yet... I hadn't noticed the recirc trick, but I certainly will try to remember to leave it that way.
I had it happen on my Rav4 when I had it. Dealer wanted $350 to clean out the entire duct system and blower motor, stating it all had to come apart in order to clean it. I bought a filter and changed it myself, used a shop vac to clean around the blower and it was as good as new...
I had it happen once. Set some poison in garage no problems since. Also happened on a Pontiac Montana I have a few years ago. My daughter bought a hampster once and it got loose in the Montana and chewed up some things like the tube to the rear window washer finally caught the critter with a glue trap.
I had that problem a decade ago in a Beretta-what made it worse is that the critter died in there and it made a horrible stink. :faint2: When I asked GM how that could happen and how to stop it they said talk to the dealer.
[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_Mouser]Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] I though about putting a cat door leading into the garage but then I wondered what my Persian would do in there. My neighbor lets his tortie run free, so I'll just have to hope she's a good mouser.
