After many months of compulsively checking my MPG/consumption bargraph, I have noticed that the lower left corner of my LCD has a nice little 'oil spot' on it. Do any of the priuschatters out there have any solutions for protecting the touchscreen? They make a whole variety of LCD protectors for PDA's and such, anyone make something like that specifically for the Prius? I currently use inkjet window decal material on my camera, although functional (and fairly cheap), I was wondering if there was a better solution out there. I am most annoyed by the 'moire' pattern that shows up on color LCDs. If you want to get REALLY fancy, you can make a CAD drawing (I use PCB software for this,) and print it 1:1 onto that material, that will allow you to cut holes irregular shapes, and most importantly multiple copies. After you do the scribing, strip the surface. BTW, if you go with the inkjet window decal stuff, you should soak it in water for a day and then gently rub the printable surface to get rid of the glue. If you don't do that, it's sticky when exposed to moisture. Woo hoo 51MPG!!!
Yes, Sigma Automotive (one of the sponsors) sells one for $16. That sounds pretty good. You can see it here. Just scroll down until you get to Interior.
I had the same problem. I got a screen protector from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Screen-Prot...991845025QQrdZ1 Cleaned up the screen and placed the protector. Problem solved! It should be about $14 with shipping.
Nope, I would suggest: 1. clean the MFD very well 2. Start from one of the sides verifying the film is stright 3. use a credit card to apply the rest, and it will just stick to the MFD - look no hands  Whatever you do, do not touch the inside part (that goes on the LCD) with your hand, this will leave your finger print there for ever. on the other hand it could be a good way to establish ownership if ever needed.
Thanks, does it look pretty clear? I remember applying various film protectors to my PDA and it just didn't look right. Some were thick, others too glossy, and some even blurry.
Yes, you'll get fingerprints on the protector too. I doubt if there's any such miracle device that doesn't. A can of compressed air to blow off any micro pieces of lint helps. Apply as the instructions describes and there should be no bubbles. The look is near transparent. It's very thin. Can barely tell it's there. It has a anti-glare, matte finish. Had mine since April and no signs of wear or peeling. It's a near perfect fit so align it carefully.
I don't see any advantage to this protector. You'll get the same fingerprints on it and you'll have to clean it just the same.
Ahh, but you can remove protector in order to clean it. You get a dirty fingerprint on the LCD screen itself and it'll be harder to clean. It's like having seat covers or a UV filter on a camera lens. Cheap protection.
