They Stole My Floor Mats!!!!

How can I tell if my mats are "all weather mats". They came with the car, though I paid extra for them when I bought my 2008 new from the dealer.

 

The Toyota All Weather mats are made from a black rubber(like) material. They usually have to be purchased separately because the mats that come with the car are carpet mats.

Yes that is a no no, the hooks in my 06 can only hold 1 mat at a time, so you must have very large hooks.

Yes I was thinking of just removing my OEM rug mats (good condition) before I go and get whatever they're giving away.. and my CHS pump makes cavitation noises when shutting down the car sometimes, so you may be on to something. The dealer no longer does any oil changes (I do them now) they couldn't stop overfilling it every time (three strikes you're out). If they changed your oil you'd better check the level as the dealer here has repeatedly overfilled it by 1/2 inch (sometimes more) above full on the stick. As for shaving the accelerator peddle, I don't think that is the root problem, well you could've just signed the waiver. There is nothing wrong with the peddle and any work on it is just inviting more trouble to a trouble free hybrid. They should be looking at the cruise control position on the steering wheel, it can be actuated easily by a person's knee or even a leg. This business with the floor mat getting on top of the peddles is rediculous and anyone who allows this to happen deserves it anyway.

 

What a strange albeit unique situation. I can sympathize with the OP. If I liked my original all weather mats and was uninformed that a swap was going to be made and discovered new mats that I perceived were not as good, I'd be upset.

From the dealership standpoint, if they are doing recall work, and they are told to remove and replace the old style all weather mats, then to an extent their hands are tied as well. However, I think from a customer viewpoint, when you're husband was asked for approval to do "recall" work, it should of been 100% explained to him what that meant. You shouldn't discover later, on your own, that it meant losing your original mats.

It sucks. I've read good things about Weather Tech mats. If you don't like the new OEM replacements I'd try judicious complaining to Toyota, buying a replacement set of weather techs and then seeing if you could get Toyota Motor Corp to reimburse you for the cost.

Switching your mats without your complete understanding or knowledge is bad communication at best.

Unfortunately if the old style mats have now been legally deemed dangerous or potentially dangerous (even if they are really not) then you aren't going to be able to get them back once they are gone.

 

File a compliant! Toyota needs to understand and do better. I did not paid 25K to see that ugly reshape peddle. Any way those of you who had done the recall, please let me know how you feel when look at that ugly reshape peddle.

 

I never look at my pedal, so I don't particularly care. If/when I sell, will buyers care more about what the pedals look like, or if it looks like I didn't keep up with safety recalls?

 

They did the pedal reshape on my 2007 and my foot really hasn't noticed any difference. I am fairly short (5' 3") and have no more trouble reaching the pedal than I did before.

 

If your future buyer cares about the pedal and mat recall, then s/he can take the car to the local Toyota dealer and have any unperformed recalls done at that time.

 

Yeah, I suppose. I'm not really concerned either way, since I don't look at the pedal and I drive my cars pretty much all the way to the ground. I'm not rushing to the dealer to get this done.

If I was going to resell I might do it if I hadn't so that I could show I'd kept up with things. I think it might give the wrong impression otherwise. Probably not an issue to an educated logical buyer, but if you limit yourself to those then it can take you a longtime to sell a car
... even a prius.

 

Got the recall letter last week and just returned from having it done. The pedal doesn't seem to respond any differently and there was no noticeable change in it's operation. I looked at it and it has indeed been shortened, but not in an unsightly manner. I have aftermarket unsecured mats, the plastic holddown hooks broke awhile ago and the original carpet mat was trashed, thanks to good ol' Alaskan weather. They said nothing about my mat and even performed a "World Class Inspection" and checked off all the boxes as being Perfect. I have a Covercraft bra and all of my lower grill slots blocked and only one of my upper grill slots opened, again no mention of a problem with that.
So I guess if they give you grief over non-OEM stuff it all depends on the service department of whatever dealership you use.

Just got back from the dealer with my 06 (also recalled), and they did shave the gas peddle a bit, did nothing with my oem carpet mats that are secured with the hooks.
The peddle works exactly as before with no noticed changes.
I also had them change the oil and filter again (while I was there) with a note on the shop order "do not overfill". What do you think the level is now? .5" over full mark. What the...
They must think more is better.

On another note I found out that the 00-02prius' transaxles use type T-IV oil, but on the 03 they went to Type WS oil. So I bought 5 qts of WS for the soon to happen 03 transaxle oil change along with the pan gasket (1week backorder) and the drain plug gasket. WS=$8/qt.

 

I believe this is incorrect, the change to WS happened with the introduction of 2G in the 2004 model year. See attached from 2004 New Car Features manual.

 

Thanks for that document Patrick. Yes we have contradicting info. from the dealer parts guy here.
He even copied a page out of his book (I'll try to scan it soon) that says on the 03 the mechanics use WS, on earlier years they still use T-IV. I have not done this yet and must go back next week anyway to get the "back ordered" pan gasket, but I may get 5 qts of T-IV for the 03. I'll keep the 5qts of WS though for a future 06 oil change. I'm trusting that the info you and others give here on PC are better than the info the dealer gives me. BTW they don't even want to know about Prius Chat! I left it up on their computer in waiting room tho...hee hee
