How known is this "secret" center console compartment?

That's what I do.

 

I never received a manual with the car. Thankfully, there was a member of the church who already owned a Prius (same year as ours) and we borrowed their books. But, I am thankful for PriusChat - I can't believe how much I discovered online that wasn't covered in the book.
By the way, I store the XM radio and GPS power cords in the drawer - not much room for anything else.
Actually, what I found cool was the storage under the radio - I had my car broken into and they took everything that was in the console storage, but they missed everything I had stashed inside the space under the radio. I'm thankful for all the storage in the car - even the secret ones.

 

I discovered that practically my first day by accident.

You might consider registering with or at least visiting Toyota Owners Online.

If you register, you can search the entire 2005 Prius Owner's Manual on PDF for free, and you can download the entire Manual onto your computer (but it takes a lot of work because you have to search for and download each Section and Sub-Section).

Also, the site gives the 1-800 telephone number and address of Toyota in Torrence, California where you can order the hardcopy 2005 Prius Owner's Manual for around $16. Alternatively, you can order the hardcopy Manual from a Toyota dealer for around the same price.

I accidentally found this drawer on my second or third day of owning the car, I believe. Guess what was inside, about 2-3 years worth of gas receipts and a notebook log of gas mileage from the only previous owner. The dealership was obviously unaware of this drawer also!

 

I can't wait for my wife to get back with the car so I can look for it.

 

Mine came with a survival kit in the secret compartment. It contains:
1 .45 automatic.
2 boxes of ammunition.
4 days' concentrated emergency rations.
1 drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills.
1 miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible.
100 dollars in rubles.
100 dollars in gold.
9 packs of chewing gum.
1 issue of prophylactics.
3 lipsticks.
3 pairs of nylon stockings.

 

From one of my favorite movies! Very funny.

 

I think all these will fit better in the 'secret' compartment under the trunk flip-panels instead. (And don't tell me you don't know there is a hidden bin too!)

 

What constitutes "1 issue" of prophylactics?

I keep my Kleenex (not the pop up kind) there. Perfect fit.

 

Well hell ..... I looked over everything I thought but who would think to go that low. I am surprised as I am 1 month owner of an '08 so now I have to go look. Wow thanks for the help for us less curious types. Crazy ....think I'll keep my ...uh...well nothing there ....but cool to have the option.:rockon:

 

I found another secret hiding place. I looked all over both the house and the car and after three days of looking I found it in the "Secret Hiding Place"....Under the passenger seat...LOL. Guess I'd just missed it glancing under there three days before. Moral is - don't feel bad if you missed the little drawer.......

 

I just went out to find the drawer in my 07. Opened up and it had sunglasses that go over my regular glasses and a couple of other things in there of mine. Obviously, I need to keep my marbles there since they aren't safe!

(And I tore the car and garage apart looking for the dc/ac converter before heading out on a trip and finally, after three times, remembered about the left wheel well compartment and sure enough it was there (so it would be handier if the luggage had been loaded already!)

I gotta remember these things!

 

The salesman at the dealer showed it to us along with everything else in a 45 minute intro to our new '08 Prius. He was also an owner and a real Prius fanatic.

 

I often put my wallet and keys in this little compartment. Or candy to keep it from melting
