Has anyone thought of this? I originally wanted to change my shift knob...... but now, I am thinking of changing the whole thing to buttons.... *it's "fly by wire" anyways right?

as an example, how about fab'ing in the buttons from a tesla roadster? here's a pic if you are not familiar....sorry, my external flash died, and the camera flash just overexposes (it's a tight fit inside the car!)

I thought the same thing but the picture attached is just for reference. It' out of a different vehicle and wouldn't be the one used.

You could use voice commands from a phone menu:

Prius: "If you'd like to shift to D, say 'B'; if you'd like to shift to R, say 'P'..."

    Driver: "B"

Prius: "I'm sorry, that gear is unavailable."

    Driver: "B!"

    Prius: "Showing sports stadiums."

I am now doing a search for the voice commands we can actually use! but that above is some funny isht!

about all else though - the buttons are from a Tesla Roadster Sport, driving one often leaves me with the feeling that the buttons are waaay cooler!

and if our drive selector is drive by wire - this could possibly be an easy thing to do. the hardest part being - "what way of placing the buttons looks the sexiest." Maybe I scrap the idea and just get a titanium ball for a shift lever?

don't recall any gm product having a button shift. chrysler and american motors had button shifts, correct me if i'm wrong. don't see any reason why the prius can't have good looking buttons. park button is already there

A version of this has already been done, and is available as a modification for Prius. Unfortunately, it is designed for the Gen 3 Prius only. It is called the OGS Intelligence Position Switch. You should be able to find references to it in Gen 3 Mod forums.

I purchased one in the hope that it could be modified to work in the Gen 2, figuring that it would be a simple matter of finding out which wire goes where in Gen 2, and installing the correct connector. If anyone knows the wiring on the Gen 2 & 3 Joy Stick Controls, I would love to find someone who can make this work on my '08. It's a little big for the Gen 2, but I think it could be made to fit in the Joy Stick location. Here is my earlier thread seeking help on this project.
