Satellite – Sirius or XM Antenna Question

I'm looking for the same thing. I pulled a sirius kit off my old 2007 Scion TC and it plugs right into my 2010 prius radio.

The only thing is I could not locate the end of the "existing" satellite antenna and had to use the magnetic roof top mount one instead. Please let me know also if anyone has info this.

 

I *believe* that the XM and Sirius antennae are not interchangable; different satellite technology. On my P-III, I think the XM receiver is located under the driver's seat; you might look there to see if you can locate the antenna lead on your P-II.

 

The connector is under the center console / armrest. It is a five minute job to access it. Unfortunately, it is a special square connector that does not match the usual round connector on a Sirius radio. I bought a Shark Fin Adapter cable For Lexus GS from MyRadioStore which works perfectly. Square connector on one end and the usual round one on the other. But it costs $60. There may be a cheaper alternative but I couldn't find one. My Sirius radio works fine using this cable and the OEM antenna.

 

How do you remove the center console? I found 4 bolts in the carpartment and removed them. Then I pulled on the back of the console and plastic tabs started to come out of there slots on the front sides of the console. However, the top middle (in between the cup holders) seemed to still be connected so I stopped pulling. Is there another connection I failed to release?

 

I know the NAV antenna (GPS) is placed in the dash (Toyota). As XM/Sirrius are also satellite based, and looking at other XM antennas (I just installed a Pioneer XM) - you will have a flat type antenna to mount.

I have found the front tweeter area to be a great location for reception. Once you get to the location, running the wire back into unit is easy (through the dash).

Depending on your XM module, there is LOTs of room behind the stereo in the dash. I placed my (fairly large - maybe 9" x 5" x 1") Pioneer XM behind the radio. I also placed a MSN DIrect module (5" x 3" x 1"), a PAC steering interface module (3" x 1.5" x 1.5"), a PAC wireless remote module (same size), along with gobs of wire... I still have room for other stuff - just can't think of anything else to throw back there

My dealer accessories guy just told me that the XM antenna lead is under the console ONLY on cars that have factory-installed XM integrated units. Otherwise he said you have to pull the radio head unit or somehow get behind it to access the antenna lead. What I don't get is how to connect into that lead if it's even accessible. In another post I found reference to something called a 'direct connect' module but I don't know where to find such a thing AND am also confused because the same post also described installing the external antenna that came with the receiver. Why both????
