Hi everyone, I'm new here and not yet a Prius owner but I have a couple questions. I looked at an 05 with 98K on, seemed to be in good shape but what are the things I should look for? I've been stalking the forums for a while now and know what I want but this car had just the JBL audio system, no bluetooth, no nav and no traction control. I have to have a nav system and want to know if it is worth it to remove the stock head unit and add a nav system but keep the jbl amp and speakers. Can this be done? they are asking $9500 for the car. What say you all? thanks for any info.
Adding the factory Nav system is not a realistic modification. You are better off adding a third party system. Tom
Thats what I was thinking about but I dont want to screw up the JBL system. Will an after market system integrate well with the rest of the JBL items and steering wheel controls?
I agree with Tom (Tom). Save some money and get an add-on like a Tom (Tom). And welcome to PriusChat :welcome:
I've actually got a tom tom xl and have a hard time reading the screen. I also spend a lot of time in the bronx, brooklyn and other cities where they seem to disapear often. Bisco, too much money? We're you referring to the price of the car or the cost of a 3rd party in dash nav?
I'm a newbie also and just bought a prius. I considered buying a car like the price and mile u are looking at but decided for just a few thousand more I could get one with half the miles and half the age. It seemed like for bang for buck the 2008 years were the best deal. I just picked up a toyota certified 2008, 42k miles for $13k. It seems like a car with 98k miles on it is when things start needing replacing. So a few thousand $ more now can save some moneys in the long run. Also on mine i bought from toyoata dealer and got a bumper to bumper warranty to 100k for $1600 more. So no worries for years to come.
the car. i agree with prowler, half the age and mileage for 30% more seems like a better deal if you can afford it. the second hundred thousand miles can be entertaining!
Wow!! maybe in Texas they're less expensive. Next best deal I could find anywhere within 100 miles is a plain 07 with 80K for $13,000. 08's are starting at 16K and up, its crazy. Our gas is over 3.00 a gallon so that may be driving the prices. I average 1500 miles a week so 15,000 miles is only a couple of months of driving for me.
actually its the exact opposite. I've bought new cars in the past but the problem is that in 2 years I've got 120,000 miles on the car and 2 more years on the loan. I buy a $10,000 car, pay cash and I don't have to worry about mileage and paying off a loan.
That price seems okay for MA. One caution I'd offer is concerning upcoming mtce. As I recall 100k mtce is a substantial amt of $$.
David, do you know how much the 100k maintainance is? Maybe I'll get them to do this before I agree to the sale. Jello, Where did you get a factory nav and how much? How bad an install? The dealer quoted me $2500 for aftermarket installed. I told him he was smoking crack!!!
if that's the best deal, then so be it. but that's a lot of mileage to put on a car with 98k to begin with.
Mikemar, My apologies. I stand corrected on that 100k mtce charge. Now that I've looked in my Mtce Guide I see what makes 100k service different is first time engine and inverter coolant are to be changed. That isn't going to be much more. Sorry, I should have looked instead of trusting my memory. David
I purchased the parts on ebay for $700 which included the nav computer (with the disk), the nav MFD, the GPS antenna, and connectors for the nav computer, MFD, and other assorted connections. Installation was straightforward: remove the seats and the carpet to get access to the floorpan, run the new wiring (about 12 wires total) between the nav computer, the JBL amp, and the MFD, install the GPS antenna in the dash and bolt everything back in.
