Well my MFD has failed to work today. I got in the car, turn it on and the MFD stayed black. I tried restarting the car multiple times and the MFD would not come on. The buttons dont work on the MFD, I dont hear and beeps when I press them. The buttons on the steering wheel dont work for the NAV, Voice, or Bluetooth. I did not try the AC but I will when I leave from work. The radio button the the steering wheel do work. Its like the MFD is not even in the car. The last thing I've done to the car was to install a 12v charger and install a switch for my automatic coolant temp hack. Both of those would not have anything to do with the MFD unless maybe the charger blew a fuse but if that happened I would expect more things to not work. Plus the MFD was working fine after I installed those devices. I did not have time to diagnose the issue since I had to go to work. I will try a few things when I get home. I'm hoping that its just a blown fuse or an easy fix. Since I have about 45,000 miles on the car I don't think it would be covered by the warranty. I'm going to look through my tech manuals just to see what all it could be. If anyone has any suggestions to try let me know and I will try them.

Well I guess its not the fuse since everything else works. On my way home tonight I noticed that the lights behind the buttons wont even come on. So I dont thing the MFD is getting power. I've all ready unplugged and plugged back in the cables in the back but that did not work. So it looks like I'm going to have to take the dash apart and get my multi meter out and do some testing to see if power is actually getting to the MFD. This is starting to suck. I'm sending off an email to Steve at autobeyours.com for a price quote on a used one.

Not the same problem. My MFD was working fine the day before and now its like its not getting any power.
As I said, it is not the same problem, but his pictures of disassembly etc. might be helpful. Also, I can email you the schematics if you send me your email address.
I have all the tech manuals and wiring diagrams. I just need to get the time to do some checking with the multimeter. If you have the actual PCB schematics that might be helpful but I dont think you mean that you have those right?
The thermister hack does not touch anything near the MFD. It conects to the ECU, which is obviously working OK, since the car runs.
As you go into testing, be careful of that high-voltage area that powers the backlight. Ding near killed my meter, it did.. . _H*
Yeah I dealt with that stuff before. Its not fun seeing a 1 inch arc of something like 1000 volts go into the the multimeter and make its insides glow.
Well the MFD is working again. The first thing I did when my MFD quit working was to reconnect the cables in the back. I did this by removing the speaker and removing the connectors that way. It was quick and easy. Well today I decided to pull out the MFD and use a multimeter to see if I was getting voltage on the supply pins. After verifying that I get about 13v from the supply pin I decided to hook everything back up. I turn on the car and the MFD started working again. So I'm guessing that it was a loose wire or a loose pin. YEA! I dont have to spend $300+ on a MFD!
