I went through direct sales too and they asked for the beep to be changed to single. they said it was impossible and no one has even asked for such a thing. it was obvious they were full of crap but now it's confirmed!

Did you talk to the sales guy? I'd try to talk to a service advisor in the service area directly and see if they can do it for no charge. Tell them you bought the car here and the reverse beeping (or whatever beeping) is driving you crazy. Show him the page 592 (reverse beep) in the manual and tell him to ask prius tech to hook up the TIS (TechStream) to change it to single beep. This is how I did it since my sales guy was on vacation. If he bring up liability crap, show the manual again and there is nothing of that sort mentioned there. If it does not work, go talk to general manager and so on. There is no reason they shouldn't do it for free since you bought the car there. Good luck.

I asked for the reverse beep turn off during the sales negotiations. Made sure they wrote the request on the 'do bill' along with my accessory installations. When the car was delivered everything had been done. No problem.

I am about to take delivery of 2010 lll this Thursday and asked the selling dealer if they can do the customization for 6 items. They told me that I would have to pay $100 for this service since they sold the car to me a such a good price and the service tech must be paid for his time. I told them do not do it then--I would not pay them $100 for 20-30 minutes of their time. I called Toyota Customer Relations and spoke with a Lia Price who opened up a file and had me fax
to her the items that I wanted changed. She then called me back to tell me that my request does not fall within the guidelines for Toyota to authorize the dealer to do this for no charge. She said there is nothing else Toyota Customer Relations will do about this situation.THIS STINKS...I don't know how others have gotten Toyota to pick up the charge for this
Customization that can only be done at the dealer. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!!
If I didn't put down a sizeable deposit I would have walked away from the purchase.

South Coast Toyota (Costa Mesa, CA) removed the backup beep and helped me set up my phone to the blue-tooth for free a day or so after the purchase. I believe they did the unlock-all-doors-at-once for us as well. Does anyone know if one can prevent the automatic door-lock?

I bought my 2010 at Toyota of Rockwall just recently. They turned off the backup beeper for free. Great dealership.

After having a day to digest all of this, I decided to call Toyota Customer Relations back and request to speak with a supervisor about the above response I got from Ms. Price. This time I was able to get a fax number for her supervisor and I proceeded to fax a 2 page letter stating my position. After a few hours, I got a call back from Ms. Price, who apologized for being new at the job and authorized the dealer to do the changes I requested as a gesture of good will. I just spoke to the service manager and gave him my list of changes and all this will be done free of charge and ready when I take delivery of the car Thursday.
    ALLS WELL THAT ENDS WELL!!!

You got the outcome you wanted - albeit not without a lot of effort on your part for something they should have bent over backwards to give you. FWIW, in the future, you should simply demand your deposit back indicating you will purchase the car elsewhere. You'd be surprised how that changes things.

I learned from this experience and I will do just what you suggest in the future.

MY Dealer switched the backup beeper to the one beep setting for free.. I had him do this at the same time of the brake recall, and it was just 2 weeks after buying the Prius. Maybe that had some thing to do with it..

I had the beeper switched to one beep on reverse. The lights set to go off immediately and switched the key fob to unlock all doors with one push of the button. When they were done they said they couldn't turn off the seatbelt warning and I didn't want to wait any longer for something that wasn't a big deal. Losing the continous beep is nice. No charge, but I get the feeling it would have cost me if I didn't ask if it was free when I called to make the appointment.

With my dealer, the first 5K service and the customization changes are considered complimentary when you buy the car from them.

I've just had my 2010 a month, and have picked out a couple of changes I'd like to make. Living in S.E. Michigan, I'm an "orphan" -- I bought the car from MotorCars Toyota in Cleveland Heights Ohio, as their price was $2000 less than anyone up here could give me. So, my local dealerships may not feel like over-extending themselves on my behalf. I figure I'll make a trip down to Cleveland to visit some old friends, and while I'm there, I'd bet the rent money that they'll make those changes without a thought of charging for it ... Sales AND FINANCE there were great. I've gotta believe service will be too.
