What's the impact on city mpg ?
The reduced dependence on regen braking should decrease that.

a1a1a1: Toyota, or rather Prius Team members are "free" to say whatever they want but that might make them ex-Toyota employees, real fast.

Another thing I've learned while working at a large company is that one has to be very careful about making promises/commitments (esp. publicly) that one can't keep or over-promising and under-delivering. With all the news in the last few weeks, one can see that sometimes the statements of Toyota spokesmen/women have sometimes been twisted or inferences made from them.

For issues of this magnitude and scope, a large company must have a unified and clear message. People going off on their own, speculating, adding their own spin and opinions can cause HUGE problems.

Imagine another hypothetical given such a fluid situation if a company released every bit of info: Oh, we might do A. We might do B. If we do A, it'll take ____ long. Oh, wait, what about country foo if we do A. Wait, let's not do a recall.

People will ask: "what happened to the recall?" Ok, let's do the recall again... and so on.

Can you imagine the press coverage and confusion from all the of above? We already have enough confusion, speculation, etc. based on what we've seen already. The above isn't real helpful in the end. For situations like this, IMHO, it's better to only report something when you really have something to report. Then there's the regulatory body aspect...

I'd imagine that Toyota has a formal guidelines on speaking to the press, what to say and not say, not to speculate, legal matters, etc. for those who deal w/the press and their dealers. Large profitable companies w/lots of cash and leading market positions automatically have a target painted on their backs by hungry, ambulance chasing lawyers.

(I'm just trying to add some perspective here as I think some posters/whiners haven't ever dealt w/such issues before.)

 

For one, the SSC number itself... something that could prove handy later when people are searching through the mountain of vague posts & threads loaded with hearsay attempting to find official information.

It's way too easy for topics to wander. Something was needed for the actual work performed. We already have quite a few with info leading up to that point. Whether or not people switch over is an entirely different matter...

So far there is no noticeable impact on mileage, but it's too early to really tell. I don't think we can assume that there is a reduced dependence on regen braking. That would be one way to fix this problem, but not the only way.

Why is the recall only for May production and later? I have an April build, and it does the 'brake dance'. What gives?

I am scheduled to have my 2010 Gen 3 (November build) flash-upgraded this Friday in Southern CA.

Question to Prius Team and those who have already had this done: does/should the dealer provide documentation showing unambiguously that the flash-upgrade performed is in relation/response to the voluntary recall announced Feb 8?

My perception is that could be important for later resale/trad-in.

 

Why? The next owner could have the recall work performed at no charge.

Any US Toyota dealer can look up the VIN of a Toyota vehicle and determine service performed by other Toyota dealers, as well as what recall/SSC work has been completed and what work needs to be done.

 

2010 prius owner here. Got the abs fix in february 2010. Problem still persists. I can replicate the error almost 100% of the time on my ride home from work. The problem also happens at random potholes and curbs. Took the car to Toyota today. They basically said I am "SOL" because if the firmware update did not correct the problem then they do not know what will. They could not guarantee my safety if the sudden/abrupt acceleration happened while driving in the snow/ice/wet road conditions. Anyone have any suggestions? Please advise.

 

Lemon law? You will need to find out what the requirements are for the state in which initial retail delivery occurred. If you can reliably reproduce the failure, then you are more than halfway to a solution.

 

I bought my '10 Prius II back in July and still haven't received any recall notification from either my dealership or Toyota. I know I can just go to any local dealer with my VIN but it just doesn't seem right from a company that "Cares".

I haven't had time to waste a day at the stealer for an update that doesn't work so I'm adapting and brake earlier than I normally would.

 

Have you had any luck with this since posting? I also had the antilock recall performed, but I still have the same issue: while braking, a sudden drop in deceleration after going over a bump.
